Default New to Bucks and East Coast - The Comedy of My Frustration

Alright, I move from California, the enclave of those who hate America. I expect to find a gun owners paradise... and I do - the laws are sensible, people great, the climate has actual seasons, and of course no San Francisco Freaks. I waited 39 years for the 82nd Airborne to liberate me and finally got sick of it and moved out. What more can I ask for? Perhapse a CCW in under 35 minutes? Eliminate that unreasonable 10 minute wait for my "not allowed in Cali" pistol? Naw - things are just fine - almost perfect here in Beautiful, Friendly Pennsylvania!

What is the problem? Well, my only 'little' problem is - WHERE ARE ALL THE SHOOTERS? Where can one shoot longer than 100 meters around here? Can anyone help me?

At any range in Cali, if you do not get there by 9 am you aint shooting until 3 pm! I had at least 7 ranges within 1 hr drive - the best one 20 minutes away - there were matches, at least 50 lanes, and more gun stores than I could reasonably visit in a weekend...and match ammo in stock everywhere I look...not to mention tactical rifles at every turn...(they banned the fun stuff so the fad is tactical now)...and reloading supplies! (Imagine a Dillon RL650 B in stock and ready to go, no shipping)

Sure, no full auto, but at least I could shoot a pickup match on a Saturday...

Please, tell me where to go? I have been to Classic Pistol, and that is fine for an indoor range, but I need long range .2MOA groups! My AI (Junior) wants to reach out and punch a very small hole from afar! The last time I had an opportunity to do some bench rest I had to checck my rifle as baggage on United's 7 PM to SFO! And Junior hates San Francisco...

At the range, or earning money to return to the range.

I go to Atglen SC, they have a 500 yard rifle range. Long distances ranges aren't as common for obvious reasons (real estate & liability, for two) but they are around. Here's a thread about 1000 yd ranges. Try posting your question here and also possibly rec.guns.

I almost laughed out loud when a woman came into a shop wearing a fur & short dress, bitterly complaining about the cold snap -- it had dropped from 68 F to 65 F.

If I never return to LA, it'll be too soon. Welcome to Pennsylvania. BTW, the white stuff outside is what we like to call snow. More Pennsylvania humor.

If you want a 1,000 yard range, you will probably have to travel to Williamsport, PA. Around here the max will probably be 600 yard range in New Holland.

How do you like your AI? I'm not a win mag fan, but AI's are very nice.

Well the AI is great - it shoots consistent .3 MOA with match ammo...when I bring it out, it is like bringing a Ferrari to a Volkswagen Convention... it really demonstrates the faults of the Blaser and other so called tactical rifles... the only thing that is nearly as accurate is either another AI or this D&L Custom 700 I once had (but only with my secret recipe hand loads).. The trigger is so good on the AI that it makes all my other target rifles feel like junk. The fit and finish is unbelievable - better than my rolex and unlike any other firearm short of a Krieghoff double rifle.

I would really like one in .308, but not the police version, the military version.

And another thing, why does everyone think Cali native means never been in snow? the worst storm I have been in was over 4' in an evening - Lake Tahoe, my truck got a flat in the mountains, changed the tire in -8 degree driving snow. Or how about snow storm in June? Where - California Eastern Sierra... 80 degrees at 1 pm, by 4 it was 30 and blizzard. (Fishing gets nuts just before a storm like that)

Believe me I know snow... The winters here are not bad at all... in Philly 30" is a disaster, in Cali, it means the slopes are open early...and if it gets cold enough the freaks start going back to their cages...
hehe

for real. no lie

I have come to believe that the reason for all their draconian gun control is not libs desire to control citizens, it is because it is their hatred of business - guns is big business in cali...

Welcome to the East and to the PAFOA Tackdriver. There is a club in Langhorne, PA not far from Yardley. Langhorne Rod and Gun Club is a fine club that has been around a long time. Check them out on the web at www.lrgc.org The website may not be up to date but the club itself is top notch. I work for a board member so if you need help getting in, let me know. Also, Falls Township Rifle and Pistol Club is close to you.

Hey, welcome. I remember you from these various gun boards as far back as I can remember (if you've been using this same handle all this time).

The problem for long-range rifle ranges is that you're near Philly and NJ, so the area is still relatively population-dense.

East Falls Range has a 100 and 200 yd outdoor range, for starters:
