    Default Hearing Protection

I have to buy a new hearing protector. My old one is about 40 years old and falling apart.

Now I see that there are both the "earmuff" type and electronic type. Any thoughts on which is better, and what models are good and not so good?

    Thanks,

    DJ

I picked up a set of the electronic muffs from harbor friegt. They were under 20.00 and I did not havehighhopes for them. I was pleasantly surprise. These ones amplify soft sound as well as damping out loud sound.

For the money they are worth checking out.

Just recently went through this myself trying to find new hearing protection. After all the looking and trying, I settled with the little $5 howard leight quiet-band. The orange band kind you see in hickock45 videos on youtube.

They do what they're meant to. The band puts pretty decent pressure on the insert so that they never need adjusted, when i used plugs i was constantly pushing and adjusting. And they never get in the way unlike muffs for me with rifle and shotgun shooting.

I do most of my shooting indoors so I use ear muffs most of the time. The problem is I have a big ass head and it is a pain finding a comfortable pair. I wish I could find a place where I could try them on lol.

I bought the Howard Leight impact sport electronic ones a few years ago and they work well. Amazon actually has a two-pack deal for $88 with free shipping right now.

I use electronic Peltor, forget which model but I have several of them and a couple non-electronic Peltor models. Electronic works great to hear line commands and training with others.

I would recommend every shooter to use plugs and then electronic muffs over top.

You get double the protection and the E muffs let you hear conversations withe the plugs in.

Take it from the guy that has to wear very expensive hearing aids that still cannot have good hearing.....

My son and I both have the Howard Lieght electronic muffs and we love them. The batteries last a long time, they're all-day comfortable, and they keep your ears warm to boot. Only drawback I've seen is when the weather gets really nasty, they don't fit too well under my parka hood and tend to feed back if you don't give them some breathing room. Other than that, they are very effective at the range and in the field.
