jdlv4_0,

Regarding the FI Model D...
Did you click on the link to my photobucket page? There is a close-up of ot there.
Are you familiar with this pistol? Most have never heard of it. Hard to find info on them too.
It was my first carry gun, but the safety kept diggin' into my side so I picked up the pony. I no longer carry it and I have a hard time selling it since it fits my hand so well so the FI is now on "my side of the bed". The Glock on "her side."

Ahhh didn't see the links at the bottom of the SKS, I'm mildly familar with the Iver Johnsons and the later Star models IIRC, I was looking at them when I was looking into small .380s, I ended up deciding to wait untill I could find a Colt Mustang +II, I'm kind of glad that I did, I love my Mustang, unfortunately my wife loves it more and now I'm basicly out of a BUG.

OK, so you DO know what it is! Yeah, they're all pretty much the same gun.

I think what I like most about my Pony (besides being perfect carry size) is that it's well-made and feels SOLID. A "real" handgun! I bought it from a co-worker who, after the sale, kept asking "How do you like it?" Turns out he sold it because "it was not accurate enough." After shooting with him one day, I realized his problem wasn't with the Colt, it was his shooting techniques and very unrealistic shooting distances! His loss!
If I ever have the money, I'd like to pick up a Colt Pocket 9. About same size and makes bigger "holes" in the BG!

Don't know how you carry your Mustang, but when I can't carry on my hip, I use a Galco ankle holster. Expensive, yes, but worth every penny. I can wear it all day with NO discomfort! I highly reccommend it. Link...

I've been looking into ankle carry, but thus far have never needed it, I have two IWB holsters for the Mustang, a Don Hume and an Uncle Mike's and both fit my needs jsut fine. If I ever get a S&W 642 I may consider getting a Galco ankle rig.

I have tried ankle rigs with several different pistols, Glock 27, Ruger SP101, and KelTec P3AT. I found it to be VERY uncomfortable most of the time, and also very difficult to draw and shoot, even with much practice. I urge you to try someone else's holster before you waste any money on something you decide that you don't like.

You said that you've tried "ankle rigs"... my guess is that you've not tried the Galco Ankle Glove. If you have, I'm shocked that you could find it uncomfortable.

I've tried on at least 7 "lesser" models before choosing the Galco. ALL of the others were, as you stated, "VERY uncomfortable" even for a few minutes. Most of them are no more than some elastic with a generic nylon holster sewn on. (Even Galco sells less expensive models, which I'm sure are not as comfortable) I was tempted to buy a more "affordable" ankle holster many times, but instead, I waited till I had the cash for the better model.

The Galco Ankle Glove has sheepskin padding behind the holster and the holster is of a quality, "custom" molded leather.

I carry my Colt Pony in mine. I don't think that I'd want to try anything much larger on my ankle. Perhaps that was part of what made it uncomfortable for you? I could see that, even with the Ankle Glove.

I agree with you COMPLETELY when you say it's "very difficult to draw and shoot."
That's why I ONLY use the ankle holster when I must. Example: Going to dinner where I would need to remove my jacket and/or needed to "dress up."
It's only carried this way in a "low risk" situation. Better on my ankle than in the car.

Also, your suggestion to "try before you buy" is a wise one!!!

p.s.
What? No comment on the pics?
Do you know how much grief I would have gotten if my wife found out I spent all that time setting up a bunch of guns to photograph and show you guys on the forum???

PICS LOOK GREAT, A+

As for the ankle rig, I think the only time the excel is if your in the guard position (fighting on your back) and need a BUG.
