Default Background Check

Is there a way to make sure you can pass the instant check for firearms purchases if you are concerned there may be something in your backgroung that you may have forgotten etc? I tried through PSP but but had no luck. Anyone have any ideas?

No way to check PICS without using it the way it is intended.

That said, the prohibitions are stated in 18PACS §6105.

There is a fague area of the statute regarding past medical treatment that could be interpreted differently and I don't want to find out PSP's interpretation the hard way.

This part?

Quote:
(4) A person who has been adjudicated as an incompetent
or who has been involuntarily committed to a mental
institution for inpatient care and treatment under section
302, 303 or 304 of the provisions of the act of July 9, 1976
(P.L.817, No.143), known as the Mental Health Procedures Act.
This paragraph shall not apply to any proceeding under
section 302 of the Mental Health Procedures Act unless the
examining physician has issued a certification that inpatient
care was necessary or that the person was committable.
What part is causing issue?

You really can't do a comprehensive check on yourself. You can review your criminal history through the PSP for around $10, but that won't reveal any Section 302/303/304 commitments or other adjudications of mental unfitness. You would know of any restraining orders that were served on you, but not about any that were issued without enough info to serve a copy on you (this happens surprisingly often.)

On the positive side, I doubt that you would be prosecuted if you attempted a purchase, were rejected, but your prohibition was something that you'd reasonably be unaware of. Prosecutions are usually for multiple felons, gang bangers and others who are unquestionably aware of their disability. Of course, with Fast Eddie in Harrisburg, they could decide to fight urban teen crime by prosecuting middle-aged guys out in the boonies.
