If I'm on the jury and you shot someone in the back, your defense attorney is going to have to work his/her ass off to prove to me it was really necessary. Point blank, I'm going to be heavily disposed to vote to send you to jail. Killing someone in self defense when needed, sure. Shooting them in the back... better be able to prove to me (instead of the DA having to prove the case) that they weren't running away.

I am making the assumption that you are referring to a range backstop or berm, that would stop the trajectory of a bullet. Yes, having a backstop on your property is legal, however the discharge of your firearm may not be. Most cities and incorporated municipalities have ordinances prohibiting the discharge of firearms with the city limits.

Where I used to live in Saylorsburg, I was able to have a backstop and since I didn't live withing the city limits, I could shoot until my wrist broke. I didn't, but I could have.

Ignore 338winmag. He just discovered the opposable thumb and it's confusing him.

I see this was Kristen's first post on this forum and this person joined up only this month (May, 2008).

It looks like 338winmag scared Kristen off and reinforced the stereotype of gun owners as crude thugs.

Someone who comes on and asks if back shooting is legal... that's kind of someone who's hard to take seriously.

Wait..wait...shooting someone in the back is NOT legal here? Oh man....now I have to rethink my whole home defense plan...damn it all! Glad someone else asked it...boy, would I have been embarrassed to find out the hard way.

And the smart approach would be to gloss over the entire thread so as not to take things out of context.

Hat's off to Pa. Patriot for taking the approach with the higher ground. He certainly knows how to set an example!

The title of the thread is misleading and I guess is where all the comments about shooting someone in the back came from however I think MrUgly's answer is along the lines of the apparent real question myself.
