They still have the "range masters" walking around with thigh holsters, etc?

I goes to Sunset Hill Range at least once a month until weather got real cold. Burrrr... Then when spring comes around, I'll be back.

I made a trip out there again this past weekend to shoot the new AR. As always the staff was excellent, but the cold did get to me after a couple hours.

That place is a dump... They fixed it up a little but not much. It's just a tourist trap. They have you shooting stuffed animals and bowling pins... you can't even tell where the bullet strikes. The sad thing is, it COULD be a really cool place. There's really nowhere else to shoot up there, unless you join a club. There was a place called paradise range up there, but I think it's closed now. The gunsmith who ran it was REALLY nice. If anyone knows what happened to that place, please let me know.

I think the Paradise range is out of business. And I'm not a huge fan of Sunset Hill either. The $5/hr manual pulley systems suck and almost alway jump track. Then you nearly break your fingers resetting them. As for the rest of it, your guess is as good as mine as to where on the stuffed animal you hit. I actually like the free state ranges better, but they're farther away.
The only reason I go is to practice at close range with my 357--the pulley system allows for that as you don't necessarily send it all the way out. Now that I've gotten better I can graduate to the 25 yard state ranges.

I don't get up to the poconos like I used to, but I wanna try some of those state ranges. I think they closed the state range at lake nockamixon, I'm not sure why. now I go to a place called wicen's farm in furlong. It's 15$, for the day. They have 100 yard stations, and a pistol range. They're very safety concious, without acting like mother hens.

I went to Sunset Hill Range last year with my nephew Paul, a Marine who was months away from being deployed to Iraq.. We had a good time. The place was literally paved with brass, like walking on sand at the beach. Jason, the range instructor we had, was friendly and didn’t have a holster strapped to his leg.
I would go back again but bring my own handgun and ammo. It is a lot cheaper if you bring your own gear. BTW, Paul came home last week, safe and sound. Joe |
