Default Moving to MA; Need Advice

As I briefly mentioned in another thread, I'm going to have to move to Massachusetts, probably for about a year, because my parents live there and because I'm having some medical problems that doctors in Boston are uniquely capable of addressing. While it is fairly serious, it's not really life threatening, so please don't worry about me. Worry about my guns!

Also mentioned in a previous thread, MA has some oppressive gun laws. It would cost me $350+ and 6 months of waiting before I got a permit to POSSESS a gun, and I'm officially moving there in August (3 months or so). Not to mention I have at least one gun that, to my knowledge, isn't even allowed to be in MA (AR15).

My question is this: What are your suggestions on how to deal with my firearms while I'm stuck in the People's Republic of Massachusetts? I'm not willing to get rid of them. I'm also not willing to commit any gun law crimes unless my life becomes more acutely threatened. One possibility that I've considered is storing my guns in a secure, environmentally controlled self-storage site in New Hampshire (they have more sensible gun laws there). It seems sub-optimal but I don't know what else to do. Any ideas?

If you can safely store them out of state, I'd do it. If you're only going to be living in MA for just one year, there's no sense in jumping through all of MA's flaming hoops and tangling your guns up in their registry.

get a good sturdy safe and put them in storage somewhere in a non-high crime area.

What others have said. If you have a friend or family member that would be willing to store them in the basement until your return, I'd do that. Especially if you have them in a safe already.

Unless you really have to live in Boston. Then it's the same as I said in the previous thread move to NH keep your guns. Rent is alot cheaper than Boston anyways.
In Medford I paid 2000 a month for a 3 bedroom 2nd floor walkup.
When I got smart I rented a whole house right in Nashua NH for 1800 a month with a yard.
As far as the storage unit people will break into them even the secure ones all they need is a code from someone then they can break into your unit easy enough. And the camera's aren't always going to catch them.

I'm pretty sure someone in PA will store them securely for you.
Most folks here will respect your wishes.

Sorry about your move; it's sad that one cannot bring their weapons with them to the place that is hailed as the "cradle of Liberty" in the US. If MA had in 1776 the gun laws that exist today, we'd all still be singing "God save the King (or Queen)".

Your best bet is to store them somewhere outside of MA until you're able to bring most (or all) of them in-state. Do you have trusted friends or family here in PA that would be able to help you out?

I am in the same boat, but I will be living in MA for a longer period of time - at least two years. Where did you get the $350 price tag for a LTC? As far as your AR15, it must be considered a post ban configuration in that state. You are correct in that you can not own them in Boston itself, but you can everywhere else in the state. Do your parents live in Boston or the Boston-area. People say they are from Philly but live 30miles outside of the city (why would anyone want to admit they are from Philly?). I don't know what your living situation is here in PA, but you could possibly keep PA residence and get an out-of-state MA LTC. That might be a way to get around things. I don't know.

I didn't know this. I knew if someone got an unrestricted Class-A license, it says something about having the ability to own weapons with "high capacity magazines" but I didn't know the details.
