Ok, for those of you who also shoot 1911's I have fitted an EGW oversize firing pin stop and adjusted the radius as instructed from m1911.org.
This supposedly brings the 1911 back to John Brownings original design of the FPS where there was little to no radius to contact the hammer thereby reducing felt recoil and getting back on target quicker. Supposed to stack the empties better also. It was changed to the large radius I am told because soldiers carried empty with the hammer down and found it hard to rack and requested something be done. Of course we don't carry 1911's that way do we? In addtion, I have also fitted the FPS to an AFTEC "no fail" spring loaded extractor. I have not completely reassembled yet or gotten a chance to test it. I am still fiddling with sights and what I want to do there. Plus its 30 degrees. ![]() When fully tested I will report back here with my results. Read about the EGW FPS here if interested. http://forum.m1911.org/showthread.php?t=13060 |

Yes I did the bevel per instructions, but have to test it all to check operation.
I still have to do the springs per 1911Tuner suggestions at m1911.org for the FPS. Thanks! |

I run the EGW firing pin stop in my 3 Colt 1911s, but not the AFTEC...my guns are series 80.
Let us know how it works for you.

Hi
Should work fine. Just be sure you get the bevel square. Bob |

I just fitted one of the EGW Oversized FP stops myself. You can't run a tight fit with the Aftec so the stop does clock some after you install it. As a result, I had to sharpy the radius and note how it wiped across the hammer to get it square.

Hi
Knowing EGW they may have a "special" that works with the AFTEC. For everything to work repeatably the stop should keep the extactor from clocking. Bob |

Nah...George just redid my top end. I don't think he offers an Aftec stop, but would likely fit one.
The Aftec needs a loose stop. You have to bevel the extractor side to allow it. |
