OK, a week or so ago I was a guest of PAFOA member Kypt at the Southern Chester County Sportsman and Farmers Club. (CCSC) I had gone specifically to fire my Marlin 336XLR at a distance longer than the 55 feet that my indoor range, SPAG offers.
We started out at the 100 yard range and with the help of a fellow shooter got my Marlin zeroed in at the 100 yards. Sweet rifle for sure. Kypt had a new handgun he wanted to shoot so we moved over to the shorter ranges. My wife was shooting her XD9 SC and I was shooting my .357 revolvers while Kypt was having fun with his new addition. After a little bit I offered my Kahr to Kypt to try. One or two shots later the trigger wouldn't reset. I tried to field strip it to no avail, without being able to dry fire the gun wouldn't come apart. I contacted Kahr, they gave me a return authorization number and shipped it to them. 10 days later (today) I got the gun back. The trigger bar had broke, that and the trigger bar spring were replaced. I have yet to fire the gun since getting it back. For those of you who haven't followed me and my Kahr, I got the gun in Feb of 2007 and although I lost count, I'd say I have well over 4000 rounds thru the gun in the 14 months I've had it. I doubt they had the kind of shooting I do in mind when the designed the gun but I bought it to shoot it, not just carry it. I love the gun and shoot it often. I never realized how much I love the CW9 until I lugged around my wifes XD this past week, so much thinner and lighter the Kahr is. BUT now I'm a tad nervous about the damn thing breaking again. Fortunately it happened in the controlled atmosphere of the range and not a gun fight, which I hope I'm never in by the way. Anyway that's the latest in my Kahr CW9 saga. Bill .

Bill,
I hate to hear that man... It makes me sad ![]() I love my CW9 also... what a great gun! I want to trust my life to mine as well and so far she has been as reliable as I could ever want... 400 rounds in 5 weeks... no failures. I agree with you that 4000 rounds in 14 months is not exactly what they had in mind... but it should have been. I also heard somewhere that Kahr suggests you send the gun back for routine maintenance after 3000 or so rounds... not sure if that was a factor in the trigger problems though. If this happened to me I would have a little bit of trouble trusting her again. I personally would have sent a letter back to Kahr with the return of the gun/or now and explain my dillema (not trusting the gun as much as I want to anymore) and see if they had any way of making it up to me (without asking directly)... maybe an upgrade or free ammo - (ya right... one can wish, can't he?)I am truly dis-heartend to hear of your dillema and I hope she proves your doubt in her to be incorrect... [we lift our Rootbeers up in a toast and say] "Hear is to many more years of shooting fun, failure free from our CW9s!" Hope all works out for you buddy... keep punchin holes in paper people!

No one wants something their life depends on to break, howerer, mechanical things do break. Don't loose faithunless it happens again....

I've been there with my cw9 except less than 1,000 rounds. I put a couple hundred through it when I got it back but have been leery about the gun since. I recently started shooting it again, but still have some faith issues.
Makes me love my wheel guns more.

Bill,
I have two Glock pistols i carry interchangably. The latest one is a G23. I shot a class of about 700 rounds through it and a rear slide rail broke. Glock fixed it. I have since run many thousand rounds through it. It's fine. I will continue to carry it. My Kahr P9 Covert had to be sent back to Kahr before I even fired a shot through it. It had a double reset, the first of which did not actually reset the system and nothing would have happened when i pressed the triger after the first round broke. Dottie at Kahr took care of it. It's on my ankle as i type and I carry it daily. Guns break and if you run them a lot, they may still break. Nothing mechanical is absolute. When someone asks if my pistols are reliable, i answer that they were when i last shot them but still carry them without fail. Of course, when I can outside of work, I usually try to carry 2. That's just me. Carry it, continue to shoot it. If it starts to crap out with other problems, then it is time to perhaps look for another carry gun, or just get it repaired and continue to carry it. That sucks, man. Put another couple hundred rounds through it this weekend, and hopefully all will be well.
My MK9 had a few FTFs last time I went out with it...but so did my friend's S&W 3913. We were both using rounds from the same box of Wal-Mart Winchester White Box....so we suspect the ammo was the culprit. It's always unnerving, though, when the gun CLICKS when it was supposed to BANG. |
