I couldn't disagree more. Where do you draw the line? Yes, the baby was born here, but to at least one illegal parent. Rewarding them with $25,000 just because some people raised a stink? American has lost its nerve and its balls. Now I see that some pizza joint somewhere (Texas?) is also accepting payment in Pesos! This is utter bullshit. Why don't we just disband the border patrol and INS and totally open up the borders? My relatives came here legally and learned to speak English and I expect everyone else to damnit. If not, feel free to leave. Immigration is my one hot button issue.

Well, first off, I think many fly off the bat quickly on these issues. But let’s put a few scenarios in play here.
We already know newspapers will say what ever it takes to sell their rag, and then correct them selves after. So “illegal” Immigrant can change to Visiting, Legal Immigrant, Student exchange program, Religious exchange program… And the list goes on, there are hundreds of reasons people are “legally” in the USA every day. I my self am a legal permanent resident of Pa. Not so long ago, I was a legal alien… Here go the ET jokes again. Prior to that, I was a legal visitor on a k2 visa. Chances are, seeing the age of the couple, the parents are here legally as students. Some how I don’t see 2 people that age being here “illegally” as it would cost them a fortune to come here in the first place, why not do it legally, its not like they can “walk” over the border.

The mother is Han Lin and the father is Yan Zhu Liu, both 22-year-old restaurant workers.

This would explain how they can freely say they work in New York. To work, you need a “green card” this makes you a resident. Not a citizen, but rules on these sorts of things say “resident” Students or “exchange students” are allowed to work in the US and have a residency status.
This includes the second part. A person who “visits” as a “tourist” is said to reside in... Could be a motel, a tent, a home… but they reside there. That makes them a resident at the time. If within 6 months of entry in the US, they are legal. You can visit the US for a period of up to 6 months per year and still be legal. People migrate to Florida and other hot winter resorts all the time from colder areas including Canadians. That is how my Father became a “legal” resident then later a Citizen of the US, now he and his new wife hold dual citizenship and reside in Canada..
There is no question as to the child being born American, as much as that can infuriate people.

I have a nephew who is American born to Canadian parents, I know exactly of what I Speak here. He was born while his father was here working legally for a Canadian company in New York and naturally, his mother, (my sister in law) was also here, the child was born and has a Dual citizenship now.

So before we “judge” this couple and decide to ship them back to where they belong, why don’t we wait to see what the news will say later on? Chances are like many other “news” it will be dropped because they prefer to drop one story and go to the next rather then correct the previous story. Unless there is proof the mother was here Illegally, this is just an other big story for the moment.

Lastly, I don't know the exact bill. But one of our bills being pushed through now has a tagline on it saying that illegal immigrants should get social security after only 6? quarters of work.

Obviously, the problem is not the people, but the government agencies forcing us to pay for these services. I'd opt out of Social Security and Medicare in a heartbeat if I had an option to do so. I could just stop paying taxes, but then i'd get the jackbooted thugs kicking down my door with IRS badges..

In this case, YES they should be forced to do it. All of my grand parents did it, I know plenty of others that did it, hell even Frenchy has done it.

I don't agree that illegals may think they are "better" like mentioned above, but they need to follow the procedures and OBEY THE LAW.

I don't know anything about this lady other than what the paper tells me. But, I do know that NYC has one of the largest population of illegal Chinese immigrants. Just like the south, obviously, has the largest influx of illegal mexican immigrants. I do not assume they are students, just like I would not assume a spanish speaking person in Texas whose documents are questioned is a student. That's my rational, I could be totally wrong.

If she is illegal....

She violated at least 2 federal laws and now is being rewarded by a federal law (anchor baby policy). The system is obviously flawed. But if they (illegals) weren't here to begin with, there wouldn't be this contradiction of laws.

I usually agree with you 100%, but on this I don't. If someone works hard, abides by the rules, it is a shame for them to break their back to legally enter the country when others walk in illegially. I won't go into the economic issues one way or another, but I think we can all agree that our relatives came to this country, had to learn the language, and adapt, my problem is a society is coming to America, and is making it bend over backwards to appease them. I think a lot of us would be a lot less harsh if it wasn't the case, it's almost like it's being flaunted.
