Default New title for Pittsburg

Nations sootiest city is the new title for Pittsburgh. And you guys thought that Philthadelphia was bad.
Quote:
LOS ANGELES - A city outside California has for the first time been named the sootiest in the nation, one of the categories the American Lung Association uses to determine the most polluted cities in the country.

Los Angeles still took the all-around pollution title, though.

Pittsburgh overtook Los Angeles in the category that measures short-term particle pollution or soot. Los Angeles, the country's longtime soot and smog leader, has enacted aggressive measures to tackle sources of pollution, resulting in a substantial drop in particle pollution levels, said Janice Nolen, the association's assistant vice president of national policy and advocacy.

I'd still rather live in Pittsburgh than Philthadelphia.

LOL!, I couldn't resist either LRT.
You might be onto something there...ever see the p.o.s. cars they drive around?
I must admit I'd rather live in Pittsburgh again than ever live anywhere in Ohio.

ohio does not deserve to have its name capitalized.

(just good natured kidding around to any ohioans who are reading...)

yep. my college roommate was from ohio (which explains why i like to kid around about ohio sucking)...

he had a mustang that literally had less than half of the floorboard still intact (the rest was just rusted away). you could literally see the road going by if you looked down while you were sitting in the back seat. had to be careful about where you put your feet when riding back there...straight outta the flinstones.

i guess that's what happens when your state doesn't require auto inspections.

but, hey, it sure beat my "car" at the time (which was made by nike).

seriously, though, i have a buddy who works in the air quality department of the allegheny county health department. there have been numerous studies done on the air quality in pittsburgh that show that most of the pollutants really do come from ohio.

the prevailing winds carry the stuff here from ohio mills along the border.

of course, any pollution we generate ends up in the counties to our east and north, so it isn't that we aren't generating some of our own pollution, too, but the main reason for any air quality issues in pittsburgh really is ohio.

Did anyone notice the particulate monitor just happens to have been placed less than a mile down wind of the Clairton Coke Works. Which happens to be the largest coke facility in the U.S..

This one racks up with temperature sensors that were placed 5 feet away from a commercial AC unit. I also liked the one where they placed a sensor on a light pole in the middle of an asphalt parking lot.

Then there was the pollution sensor that was placed at a busy bus stop in downtown Pittsburgh. The best one was the pollution sensor that was placed above the driveway exit at the Greyhound Bus station.

i was just kiddin' around.

pittsburgh is often spelled pittsburg by people who aren't yinzers...since most places that end in "burg" don't have an h at the end.

so we get a little defensive when people try to steal our h.

(of course, we pronounce it "picksburg" anyway, so...)
