so my name is not registered to my weapon in any way except for the dealers record of the sale? i was under the impression that this was the case for rifles, but not for handguns.

Again, there are numerous ways in which you can legally acquire a handgun in PA without filling out a Application/Record of Sale. Also moving in state with existing firearms. Not to mention that as an LTCF holder you can carry a handgun owned by anyone (loans).

The database is not proof of anything. Simply stated, they have no authority to hold your property if it doesn't show on their illegal database.

I am making a phone call that should result in some confirmation and possibly helpful info regarding this type of complaint against the PSP .

I will be speaking with a lawyer as soon as I am able to retrieve my vehicle. I will also be picking up my weapon on Friday - the Chester County Sheriff's office heard my story this morning and backed up my claims. It seems that this will come off as a minor inconvenience to me as far as my firearm ownership, but I will pursue the legal route as quickly as possible.

I do have the name and badge number of the officer who detained me and I have the name of his superior.

Please do. This type of behavior is completely unacceptable from the PSP. The officers involved need to be made example of, they know better.

It is also much more than a inconvenience when it involves a protected right. I will send all the info I have today, in case it is useful, so you can share with your attorney. Good luck and please keep us posted.

Like another poster stated, make sure you follow Pa. Patriots advice. He won't steer you wrong.

In the mean time, if there is anything that you need, don't hesitate to ask.

The support of all the knowledgeable people on this forum is putting my mind at ease. I couldn't ask for anything more, given the situation. I certainly will follow the advice given.

if everything happened as you stated, please pursue any and all available legal recourse against these guys.

that is absolutely, completely unacceptable in PA.

your gun not showing up in PICS is most definitely not PC for an arrest (and, by moving your from one location to another, they did arrest you even if they say they did not).

they basically kidnapped you and stole your gun and your car.
