I don't find it irrational to expect police officers to know the laws, especially when their "ignorant" decision is ILLEGAL.

Oops.. missed that CLEAR reference to LTCF in there.

You appear to have missed my point. My point was his direct statement that the troopers knowingly behaved in an illegal manner. No dispute that they were irresponsible and grossly ignorant of the law. My that is not the same as KNOWINGLY. You think they would subject their careers to risk to give a legal gun owner a problem on purpose. Ignorant behavior is not acceptable either, but I DO think it is not being realistic to think that a conscious decision to break the law was made by the state troopers.

Although KnightZero never gave me the first letter of his last name, I was able to consult the spirits and receive word from the heavens.

The way the OP worded his posted and touched upon things that concern us, along with the seemingly ridiculous nature of the police interaction, led me to believe that we were getting trolled.

I do see, however, there is at least a traffic citation filed.

C'mon guys! Relax!

WitsBusa may have valid a point......

One way to solve this is to find out if LEO's have to go to SCHOOL and LEARN the law before they start enforcing it. Let's give WitBusa the benefit of doubt here - Maybe LEO's don't need to learn or be trained in anything before they enforce laws.

Anyone know the answer?

That oughtta clear up the 'knowingly' question!

Eh, I took that earlier post as somewhat of a joke. However, just so that you can feel free to confirm, I do share the name of a certain actor, who once led A Wonderful Life. I'm hoping that I can follow in his footsteps after this whole thing is over.

Honestly, I am quite willing to believe that the officer was on my side. He seemed well aware of the laws, and he himself said that once I was proven innocent, that I should seek legal advice. It did seem that his hands were tied in the situation. He fought hard to get me out of the police barracks that night.

More updates once I speak at length with an attorney. For now, time to read the other, happy threads.

Whether the PSP troopers knew the law or didn't know the law is irrelevent. As law enforcement officers they are expected to know the laws they enforce, and should be trained accordingly.

What was that the judge said just before passing sentence? "Ignorance of the law is no excuse."

What's good for a defendent in a criminal trial is certainly good enough for the PSP.

Wow... Just wow... Is this real? Or am I dreaming? So much for 'innocent until proven guilty'...

I really hope I am not being taken for a ride here. As much as I wish this PSP behavior is not true, I hope this post is not BS.
