Bout damn time too. Was wondering how many OC miles I had to rack up before somebody said something negative. To deter anybody who might get scared off by my experience, this came after two very good chats I had at stores previously visited this evening, Goodwill and Cash Converters.
After those two stops, decided to head to the Coventry Mall off 422 and 100 to hit up the FYE store for tunes. Walked in, went 50ft, came across a security guard. His eyes were on my sidearm, but then he just kept cruising, so I thought I was golden. Wrong. ![]() Was in FYE, walking up to the checkout with a couple CDs in my hands when the same security guard approached me. "I see youve got the revolver out on the hip." "Yes, thanks for noticing." Big smile and went to checkout. "Actually sir, weapons are prohibited in the mall. You need to take it outside." "Really? There is no sign posted at the entrance, and you didnt say anything earlier." "There is sir, and I had someone approach me and complain." "Well, what do you want me to do with these?" gesturing to the stack of CDs I had. "Oh, you can go ahead and check out, but then you have to go." "Im sorry, but Im not going to spend my money here if Im not welcome." "Very well, just give them to the cashier and be on your way." At this he walked away and left the store. I dropped off the CDs, but to my shame bought one. It was an extended cut Dropkick Murphy's with DVD for $9, sue me. I left and walked out. Caught a different security guard giving me a hard stare as I was walking, I deployed the T.S.E.G., and moved on. On the way I stopped to check for this sign. Found it near the entry, facing into the mall, listing all prohibited items in 3/4" print. A little easy to miss. There was 'firearms and weapons' right between radios and alcohol. They have a Radio Shack, and a wine store inside the mall. Go figure on that one. Not a very bad one in comparison to some others, but it is my first and only negative response in a year of OC. Thankfully, SunCoast moved out of Coventry Mall, so I have no real reason to go back there ever again.

Yeah, it could have gone a lot worse. However it sucks that they feel the need to disarm their guests.
I think a letter to the mall management pointing out the benefits of citizen carry, citing the Trolly Square incident, and propose that they remove that particular "rule." But that's just my $0.02.

Can't blame you for getting the Dropkick Murphys cd. I probably would have done the same.

Need to send a few letters complaining they shut down radio shack and the wine store imeadately, as they violate the malls policy. Include that the security guards are very neglegent in their jobs allowing these stores to remain open, but were more than willing to throw out a paying customer for carrying a firearm legally in the building.
I want a picture of the sign, arent nextels 2 way radios??? Then again isnt a mobile phone a radio???
