Default Hey Folks...? regarding LTCF

Hi there from South Carolina where my wife and I live. We have decided to apply for LTCF in PA. We are licensed here in SC. My wife has family in East Berlin, PA of whom we visit 2-3 times a year, hence the reason for LTCF. I have downloaded the Centre County application and have a question about it. It is in reference to Section 28: which category do we check? Do we check "Self-Defense" and "Target Shooting" since we will carry and shoot at the family farm? Or, do we check only one category(Self-Defense)? It seems that at least two categories can apply to most people!

Also, do they really call your references? I mean, we have already been checked out by SLED, the Feds, and NCIS! Seems a little bit of over kill.

Thanks for your help. I can't wait till next month, because I'll be in PA, riding horses, shooting, riding quads, working on the farm, and etc. I don't know, I just love doing that kind of stuff! Thanks!

My own county permits multiple check-offs. One is sufficient though. If your LTCF is issued for self-defense, that doesn't mean you can't go target shooting. No matter how many you select, I've only ever heard of one reason actually being printed on the LTCF.

I don't know specifically about Center county, but do know that not all Sheriffs take the time to contact references.

I can't speak for everyone but I live in Centre and my references were never called. Denny Nau is the sheriff and he's a good guy, former Marine.

Just check the self defense block. I remember the first time I applied, a long time ago (I'm a Centre Co. resident). The deputy told me just to mark the S/D don't worry about the other blocks. IIRC, the other blocks were there before there was a Sportsmans License and you could mark multiple blocks.

I only checked self-defense on mine. As already mentioned, that covers everything.

The sheriff in Lancaster told me just to check one box, it really didn't matter since PA doesn't restrict your activity the way my home county does (illegally).
That said, I'm waiting to hear from them about my application. It has been @ 2 weeks. I won't be back until summer and I told the guy this. He said that they would hold my application for 12 months.
Didn't realize until I found this website that I can OC all day long in PA. Good to know since I travel back and forth from New York to PA often. Now just gotta find me some outside the pants holsters...

JIm from Buffalo.
