The thing about knives, is that you can change directions very quickly with them and they cause damage the entire time, turning, stabbing, and slashing, and to top it off, you try to block or smother a limb, and it is already cutting you before you have a chance to stop it..
That is why the training drills are so valuable.. They will NOT prevent you from getting cut, sometimes badly, they will NOT teach you to actually fight with a knife or defend a knife attack, but they WILL teach you sensitivity and timing and give you a few seconds more time to defend if you train properly.. Then you have to get a training dagger and train ALL OUT in a sparring/fighting scenario.. That way you will quickly learn what works and what doesn't... No martial artist worth your training $$$, will ever tell you that the knife training we do is going to make you invincible, etc, but I will tell anyone I train, that the training I give you will increase your chances fo surviving an edged weapon attack.. You will gain precious seconds and in most cases that will be all you get.. Dave |
