Default So what happens to all the LE only mags when the new AWB goes into effect

So we all remember the dark years of the Assault Weapons Ban. Any standard capacity magazines were stamped "LE or Export Only". Many firearms were manufactured with these markings as well. I can only assume that, during the ban, there were some sort of penalties for having these products in your posession.

When the AWB expired, the market was flooded with these "LE only" products. many of us have magazines and firearms with the designation stamped into them.

So here is the question. WHEN the next AWB goes into effect, what happens to those products? Will the gov come up with a new designation or what?

Just thinking out loud. Any thoughts on how they will handle it?

I don;t believe they were illegal to possess....only illegal to buy, or sell to non-LEO, but I may be mistaken

They're going to have to come up with a new designation, either that or they will be making a LOT of people criminals for items that were purchased legally.

They weren't illegal to sell(used), buy, own, or use.

It was only new "hi-cap" magazines were not able to be sold to "unauthorized" people as I recall.

Someone correct me if I'm mistaken.
All I know is that during the "ban", I paid $69 for a G19 mag., and a few months later they weren't "evil" any more and the price dropped to $18.

i've heard mixed thoughts on this. I don't see them outlawing guns marked LE only though, that wouldn't be pretty to see.

Mines restricted, but we should still be GTG

I dont know the answer 100%, but I have heard that the "LE only" mags are different than the unmarked hi-cap mags that where already out there. But like I said I heard it from my friends, uncles sisters best friends dad.

I don't think anything will happen to the existing products. But if there is an AWB, I think it will be more like stuff having dates put on them. I got some 30rnd mags last year and there is a date on them, It's the only reason I can think of.

Talking Re: So what happens to all the LE only mags when the new AWB goes into effect

Part of the silliness of the previous ban was that anything deemed illeagal could still be had, just at higher prices. I saw a semi-auto Uzi at a gun show during the height of the ban for three times what it was worth. As pointed out in an earlier post, magazines were the same way. Get your $15 AK mags now.

The "LE Only" mags were marked specifically in that manner because of the restriction against selling them to civilians, i.e. us, during the time of the AWB. Since it has been sunset it is entirely legal for us to own them. Therefore if there is a new AWB there will have to be new verbiage to identify magazines that we are not allowed to purchase since there are so many "LE Only" mags in the possesion of we, the unwashed.
