The City of Philadelphia is making a big mistake here , The State has the responsibility to legislate Gun laws. The biggest problem in the City is people who aren't going to follow any regulations or any laws , This is only goiing to affect those who are buying hand guns for self defense or home defense, It wil have no impact on crime and it won't reduce the number of guns on the street. When I was a kid the favorite way for gang members to get even was to use "zip guns" (this was a home made gun comprised of a length of pipe and some wood and a few other pieces of junk cobbled together), then they went to Saturday night specials , and now they have 9 mm or 45 s or some other gun with a large capacity magazine. No this gun law stuff does not work.

I think instead of the State shooting down the laws is for the rest of the State to cut all funds to the city until Mayor Nutter rescinds them. He will be a hero for trying if the laws are shot down in the courts. But if the city is hurt and hurt bad the voters might take it out on Nutter.

Nutter has his buddy in the harrisburg executive mansion...he doesn't feel intimidated by breaking Pennsylvania law because he knows he's "safe"...he SHOULD, however, be held liable for his actions...

Philadelphia Defies Harrisburg Over Gun Control Legislation for City
by KYW's Mike Dunn

Philadelphia's battle with Harrisburg over gun laws ratcheted up on Thursday: City Council unanimously passed five gun-control laws without state approval, and the mayor promised to sign them and order their enforcement (see previous story).

Among the five measures is a bill that requires reporting of lost and stolen guns, and one that imposes a one-handgun-a-month limit on new purchases.
The sponsor is councilman Darrell Clarke:
"We think those two are primarily the pieces of legislation that will give us the best opportunity to stop this proliferation of straw (gun) purchases in the City of Philadelphia."
Many believe that only the state has the authority to pass such laws, and Clarke is separately suing the state legislature for failing to act (see related story).

Mayor Nutter is on board with Clarke -- he was arranging to sign the bills later on Thursday and says he will order his police commissioner to begin enforcing them.
The other measures approved on Thursday include a ban on certain semiautomatic weapons, and a bill that lets police confiscate guns from people whom the officers consider to be a risk to themselves or others.

Default April 10, 2008: Philly passes 5 new gun laws w/o Harrisburg's approval

My question's are:
1) What are these five gun laws and how will they effect carrying in Philly.
2) Will the PA Supreme Court enforce the PA Constitution.
3) What is the literacy rate of Philly politicians. Hooked on phonics worked for me!
4) Will the Philly politicians promote and prove their ultimate gun control measure, a complete gun ban, by first leading by example and require that they themselves and their assigned protection personnel give up their firearms, tasers, batons, etc and just carry chemical spray. They should also be held to the same criminal prosecution of the gun laws they write should they violate those gun laws.

Nutter is an even bigger piece of sh!t than Street. Street was too corrupt to pursue his liberal agenda. Nutter seems to be focused. It really annoys me when these elected officials piss away tax payer money on crap like this.

How do we keep getting these anti-gun zealots in public office. It's mindboggling.
Never and I mean not ever do they address anything that will be effective in cutting crime.

Along the same lines as MrUgly's question, can the mayor and council be charged with conspiracy when this all goes bad?

How about we all, as individuals, file private criminal complaints against Nutter for willful violation of §6120

AG would have to take notice.

How the f can they do that!!!!!! I think we should have an open carry in Philly soon!

I can't wait to see the lawsuits that come out of this. Maybe this is a good thing.
