For the record, once the slug lost the momentum behind it, it would fall to Earth at the speed of gravity. Objects falling from a plan won't really do much to a person. Much like dropping a penny from the Empire State Building... It would hurt, but not penetrate...

This was tested on Mythbusters. They fired a handgun through the window of a pressurized aircraft to see what would happen.
