They are pilots and by default elitists so I guessed it was a HK USP.

All people eligible to carry guns in the cockpit carry the same weapon, the .40-caliber semiautomatic H&K USP.

For the record, once the slug lost the momentum behind it, it would fall to Earth at the speed of gravity. Objects falling from a plan won't really do much to a person. Much like dropping a penny from the Empire State Building... It would hurt, but not penetrate...

This was tested on Mythbusters. They fired a handgun through the window of a pressurized aircraft to see what would happen.

Almost nothing did. Sure, there was a hole and a very small leak, but otherwise, the results were hardly catastrophic. They had to use explosives to tear a hole in the aircraft large enough to actually cause a true explosive decompression.

The weight of the bullet is probably more than a penny. I bet it would leave a mark on top of your head.
