Re: PT 1911 safety problem
here you go OP
Grip retention ambi on the Taurus
Pinned style safety
If your new grips push in on the retention arm it can push the safety enough to move the left side out away from the fram and let the detent fly. Especialy if you had the hammer back while working on it.

Re: PT 1911 safety problem
Thanks guys for the replies! The grips werent cut for it, but I was cutting the new ones to match the stock ones myself. I guess it was possible as I was test fitting the grips that I pushed on the right side safety enough to pop out the left. But it was more of just a setting it on there to see if it fit good and not a forcing the grip on the gun. The hammer was up at the time. Thanks

Re: PT 1911 safety problem
I've had my PT 1911 for about six weeks and have put about 700 rounds through it. Not a single problem. Last night I was customizing some rosewood grips for it and sure enough the left side safety dropped out. I called Taurus and they said that this is a common problem with these guns. As was mentioned earlier in this post, all that needs to be done as (per Taurus) is remove the right side safety switch and pinch the forks a little bit. When I put them back in I used a pair of channel locks to snap them into place. Worked like a charm and they won't fall out on their own anymore!
I LOVE this gun.

Re: PT 1911 safety problem
Every 1911 maker on earth can ship me the safety in pieces by mail....three days after I buy the gun......if they shave $100-$200 off the price. Taurus should just send me the whole gun ....loose.....in a plastic bag for $400.
I QC all my own guns, anyhow.
