PMSC POOFA Clay Days!

Ok some of us think there is an interest in shotgun sports and would like to see it In the regular monthly POOFA PMSC shoots.
How ever, it has been brought up that there might not really be such an interest in this except for a very few select people, who in all reality, could do this any time if they really wanted to..
SO let’s have a show of hands.

Let’s say there was a group of people who woke up really early Sunday April 13th and set up a clay field on the very last clay field before you go up that winding hill to the usual group shoot…
And let’s say you didn’t have to own a shotgun or even have your own bullets (shells) to participate in this, that for a global price, you could buy 5, 10 or as many shots as you wanted and participate.

And that pending on participation, the levels of difficulty could get better and better as the months go by until you would probably wind up cussing us out because you NOW have to go out and buy your own shotgun just to satisfy your need to blow little disks of clay flying over 40mph all over kingdom come any time you pretty well feel like it..


So lets say, you could do all of this, with out it costing you a fortune, come unprepared or prepared, and still shoot to try a new type of shooting. Would you stop and give it a try?

I found out there are shotguns to lend at the club, and RowlDawg had a few of his own..

Apparently there are a few trap machines in the garage we could use also. We talked about using the last field or even possibly the range where the MG shoot was shot…

Beginning with simple trap with a slow machine where we could get people initiated at even shooting a moving target.. We also looked at more complex shoots with Teals and rabbits involved.

Seeing most people do not have a shotgun (YET) we figured we would make it a rental type thing where the cost would pay for 25 shots (one round) and a shotgun of course. Throwing bullets gets long and you rarely hit the birds.

I suggested the last trap field because every one driving by it would see it and get curious. RowlDawg said traffic could become a problem with people wanting to get to the top ranges… What the hell is wrong with leg power Boy!

Either way, L@@k for a “Skeet” type event this summer as a continuing improvement to our monthly shoots.
There is plenty of parking area in the field area and I am sure by summer end, we could have some new POOFA leagues starting up for Trap, Skeet and maybe even some Annie Oakly type shoots.

Now I know, Clays has been sort of shunned in the past, mostly because no one wanted to take care of it, but I am sure once it is underway, Even the likes of Lycanthrope and the evil BearTitan will come visit the new “Area”…

It going to be the attack of the Birds!!! If you ever wanted to get into a very addicting sport where the target moves fast and some times even attacks you if you miss it, then this could be for you!!!

PS: on the walmart type theme, Those vests would make great vests for holding shells if they only had large enough pockets!!!
Revenge of the greeters! Is coming to a shoot near you soon, we will have you all ready in a blue vest ready to shoot down those EVIL Orange birds!!!

Heck, I might even sew up a few vests with large enough Pockets and as Wal-Mart to sponsor them! Well maybe not! But we never know what our Imagination can bring up!

Tired of that blue jay at Home Depot crapping on your head when you look up to see the price of an item? We could get you the LOWe’s down on how to get rid of the crappers!!!

But that’s not all, Imagine the fun when simulating a Mc Donald Pigeon shoot!! That Seagull will have no chance if you practice regularly at the
POOFA MC-Fry that Bird!!!

We can have birds flying over your head, Rabbits whizzing by your feet, and for a few bucks more, we can arrange for you to even get a burger out of it!!!

Imagine the pride you will have when you go to the shoot bouse after wearing your new Burger King Crown to show you won against the evil Crow!!!

So now I need a show of hands to see who would participate in this to see if its worth out while to do such a thing…
Of course, there will be a few who already have Shotgun experience that we expect will stop by and lay a few clays to rest, but of the rest of you who only know the world of Evil black Rifles and pistols, who would stop to give this a try?

I may give it a shot, I am at least interested.
I dont own a shotgun, ......... yet.

To be honest, the massive recoil from when I have shot them is not something that appeals to me much.

Of course a few months down the road I do expect to hear...

"Frenchy im going to knock your head off an dpiss down your neck for addicting me to YET an other type of firearms sport"

But although this is Addicting as a sport, we still enjoy other guns... Ask Hawk and Roland... Its just tough to get used to the target being so "Still" Once you start hitting Clays.

As far as "reactive" sports, There are people who love to see a steel plate go down when they shoot at it, but if you ask Lycanthrope, Shooting Clays is worth standing out in the cold waiting for the lights to turn on...

Some even live just to see that bird turn to dust and they cream their jeans with joy.

"Poofa" is what the guys at PMSC who are not on this board call PAFOA.

It's our regional slang for "PAFOA". Originated at the westy group shoots and PMSC.

It just stuck.

As for clays.....more gun/more fun.

NO We will not be shooting at Ming Vases, NO you will not be asked to come make a Clay Jar the night before to shoot at...

Clay sports are basically a simulation of bird hunting.
Some definitions...

POOFA, PAFOA for the west shoots every second sunday of every month..
Example in a phrase..

Hey Lycan you going to the POOFA shoot?
Yeah I got my guns ready and Ill be at the shoot house, POOFA Rocks!
We just couldnt get people used to the Accronym, We even got DanP so say POOFA once or twice at the FA shoot...


CLAYS = A Disk that is propelled in the air much like a Frisbee. Some times called Bird.. Most often to the command of Pull! Or Pullet!
(Phrase often muttered after the shot is fired “Big man with iron stick make big bang and hold in the sky… “
Clay Sports…
In Trap, the Bird comes out in front of you; you get a chance to shoot it The bird will come out of a specific point but may travel as much as 15 to 20 degrees from the “Trap”
house. There are 5 positions to a trap field, but the bird always comes out from the front.

In Skeet, the bird comes from one of 2 trap houses, The upper and the lower. Pending on what stage you are on, the bird may be flying away from you, towards you, or cross from side to side in front of you.
In 5-Stand.. Birds and an other species of “Clays” known as rabbits or bunnies come from 6 to 8 different locations throughout the field, there is a combination of shoots, IE: you might be on a stage where the clays come out of 1/7 or 8/2. A combination of ground rolling clays “rabbits” and flying disks “Birds” are presented to you from different locations and distances.

Report, when a second “clay” bird or rabbit is sent after the initial shot of the first.

Teals, Clays flying straight up in the air.

Lower, Upper, Refers to the houses on a Skeet field.

Tandem, 2 birds released at once. Also called a Pair.

Wobblers, Clays thrown at different angles and some times offset in weight so as to “wobble” in the air/.

Shotgun The type of firearm used to propell hundred of little pellets at perfectly harmless little disck trying to escape at 40mph just to crash to the ground if missed...
