Default Can someone make sense of this

Man cited for having handguns in view:------------, 39, of Hatboro, was cited Saturday for disorderly conduct for having handguns in plain view, said Upper Moreland police.

An off-duty DEA agent told police he had seen a gun in clear view on the driver's door of a car parked in the Willow Grove Shopping Center on Park Avenue. When police arrived, they found two, clearly visible handguns. Police found C-----, who provided his license to carry firearms. Both handguns were loaded. Police issued him a citation because of the alarm and the safety considerations for leaving loaded handguns in plain view of the public, said police.

I got this from the Intelligencer, I'm guessing the guy had the weapons sitting in plain site in his car, while he was in a store............? Guess that's a no no huh..........Well I'd say that was pretty stupid to leave them in plain sight in this shopping center, if that's what he did.........

I blanked his name.........

If he was in the car then there was no violation. However... if he left then in plain view while the car was unoccupied...?? I got nothing. Is it a crime to leave your possessions in plain view in your vehicle?

I have to agree that it's a dumbassed thing to do, leaving them in plain sight like that.

Might get flamed for this, in fact will probably get flamed, but I've got to say I don't have a problem with the cops busting the dude. Disorderly conduct is about all I can think of, and obviously all the cop could think of, and I don't know if it will stick in court, but leaving your guns in plain view in a public place and unguarded just strikes me as dumb. Owning and carrying firearms requires responsibility, and that doesn't fill the bill, IMHO.

Sorry guys, even though the guy might have been stupid to leave his guns in plain view. The Police are the ones who need the kick in the pants over this. I ask anyone who can do so to find anyplace in the UFA (Title 18 chapter 61) that forbids this. Remember unless a law forbids something that act is legal. The law is not based on what the beat cop or the road sergeant or the chief of police think the law is.
