Default .22 Long Rifle rifle recommendation

I would like to get a high quality .22 rifle. I'm looking on my own, but can anyone recommend one that they have had good success with?

Weatherby Mark XXII. You did say you wanted a good one. They are made by Anschutz for Weatherby. Basically they use the best of everything in the manufacturing of the gun. They run about $900.

Weatherby Mark XXII

I have been thinking about getting one myself.
Problem is don't look for getting a discount on the gun. They have been flying off the racks and Weatherby is barely keeping up with the demand.

Who would think there is such a demand for a $900 .22 bolt action.

Here is an review on the XXII.
Check out the groups they shot at 50 yards.

It depends upon what you want the rifle to do.

I've got a Ruger 10/22 that is just loads of fun to blast ammo through. It does reasonable groups at 50 yards.

I've also got an Anschutz Model 1807 that I have killed flies with at 50 yards. It's one helluva tack-driver. With the right ammo and no wind. It'll do hole in hole shots all day.

Bottom line is what are you going to use it for? Target, hunting, plinking...? Do you want a bolt action, single shot, magazine fed, semi-auto...?

Only have 2 of them, a Ruger 10/22 that I bought new in 1968 and a Henry Golden boy purchased last year.
The Henry is very pretty and functions just fine.....but I much prefer the Ruger, just like it better!

My favorite is a CZ 452 American, with CCI lrhp it will keep 10 shots inside a nickle and with Wolf M/T it often makes one large hole and always inside a dime for 10 shots. They go for about $325 to $ 360.

Under $700....

The CZ 452/453 just buries everything else.

You can get a 10/22 to shoot as good, but you have to mod it out.

Pennies? Start saving quarters.

How much quality do you want? http://www.championshooters.com/specl.htm

There's Anschutz .22 rifles on there starting at $740 and going to $3000+

Not sure how fancy you are wanting to get. I'm REALLY fond of the Savage MKII. Looks good with the wood stock and heavy barrel, Savage's Accu-trigger is a real joy, came with a decent Simmons scope, and I've managed half inch groups with it at 50 yards. For a reasonable price. I think we spent around $250 for it.
