Yup, more fodder for the antis because some a** can't:

a. teach their kid to be responsible, especially with firearms
b. can't keep their firearms locked up and away from children who may not be ready for them.

The latest from KYW Radio:

Report of Student Suicide at Springfield (Montco) H.S.

The Springfield Township (Montgomery County) School District's web site reports that a student brought a rifle to Springfield High School on Tuesday morning and shot himself inside the school.

The web site says no one else was injured, and the school was placed in lockdown as police and school officials investigated. The Montgomery County coroner was called to the scene, indicating a fatality.

News helicopter video showed some students being led away from the school building, located at Route 309 and Paper Mill Road.

KYW's Lynne Adkins spoke with the mother of a tenth-grade student at the school who said her daughter called to say she was fine. Janet Kostenbauder says her daughter Justine told her the sound of shots could be heard as students were changing classes, and many students immediately ran out of the building toward Paper Mill Road.

According to Justine Kostenbauder, police who were nearby told the students to keep moving futher away from the school building. Those inside were told to lay on the floor until police gave the all-clear. Students were then being escorted to the adjacent middle school building.

In an interview live on KYW Newsradio 1060, school district spokeswoman Laura Feller said all schools of the district would remain in lockdown, and campuses were to all vehicles other than emergency vehicles. She said that high school students were being counseled at the adjacent middle school.

Feller had praise for the students, whom she said were very well versed in their emergency evacuation plan and followed it calmly. Feller also said that police, whose administration building is a block from the high school, were on scene within a minute of the incident.

Springfield High School went through a similar lockdown on September 21st, when a student was spotted in the school with a gun. No shots were fired in that incident, and the student was captured about a block from the school.

KYW's Tony Hanson spoke with some students, who said that at the sound of gunshots, many students ran from the building in panic, while others couldn't believe that what they were hearing was gunfire. One described it as the sound of a couple of two-by-fours being smacked together.

Yeah, I just heard about it on the radio. We all know that it was the gun's fault. If it wasn't for that DAMN rifle, he wouldn't have had ANY other way to kill himself. He would not have been able to slit his wrists, overdose on something, hang himself, jump off a tall object or ram his car into a tree. If it wasn't for that damn gun, he would have been SAFE!

Teen Commits Suicide in Hallway of Pennsylvania School

Tuesday, December 12, 2006

FNC

Scene of school shooting at the Springfield Township High School in Montgomery County, Pa.

ERDENHEIM, Pa. — An 11th-grader brought a rifle to school and shot himself to death in a hallway Tuesday morning between classes, according to officials and a witness.

No one else was injured in the 9 a.m. shooting at Springfield Township High School in Montgomery County, the district said.

The teenager first fired shots into the ceiling in the science-wing hallway, said Michael Delaurentis, 18, who said he was about 30 feet away.

"I was walking to my class," Delaurentis said. "I just hear 'Get down!' I heard shots fired into the ceiling and I saw smoke." The teenager then shot himself, officials said.

All the students in the building were evacuated to an adjacent middle school, and all the district's schools were locked down, said Laura Feller, a spokeswoman for the Springfield Township School District. Parents trickled to the school later Tuesday morning to pick up their children.

The township police station is next door to the high school and officers were on the scene almost immediately, Feller said. The police department declined to comment when reached by phone.

The dead student was not immediately identified.

Nearly three months ago, a 10th-grader at the same school, just outside Philadelphia, was arrested for allegedly bringing in a loaded gun. The boy showed the gun to another student, and word soon trickled to a teacher and then a security officer, officials said. Police found the student and arrested him after he left campus.

"It just makes you a little in fear of the future," said Delaurentis' father, Michael. "Not just at this school, any school, because I don't think any school is 100 percent secure."

We're actually not in for it again.

It's going to be the same as the Amish School House Shootings.

I watched the press conference Rendell gave and the reporter asked about his gun control policies. He admitted that the guns would not have been affected by his gun measures. This kid shot himself with a "rifle" so it was most likely not an AW.

I saw the father interviewed on the evening news. He was remarkably...composed. He was probably still in a state of shock. My prayers go out to the family.

Actually, there are reporting that it was an AK, so maybe EBRs could be in trouble yet.

The part that bothered me was when the D.A. said, 'We've confiscated all the firearms in the home ... Because the family is distraught and doesn't know where they're at right now!'

And I thought to myself, 'By what right did you do that?'

Seems to me that laws for the general populus shouldn't be predicated on the bizarre behavior of a few aberrant individuals; but, hey, that's just me!
