Default Private FTF sale of an AR?

Any reason a private sale of an ar has to go through proper channels? Or is it treated as any other long gun sale? I might be getting a Colt with less than 20 rounds through it at a VERY good price...

What would make it any different from any other long arm?

Well, with the whole ex-ban thing and the fact that you need to get the lowers through an FFL, I just wasn't sure. And yes I should have done a search first, I know. That wouldn't have helped my post count. Thanks for the answers!

Ex-ban thing means nothing in PA, ban is over as if it never existed.

You can get the lowers from anyone you want with no paperwork and no FFL. If the seller is shipping from out of state I think you need to ship to an FFL and manufacturers will ship to an FFL. And, obviously, dealers need records to sell to you.

A rifle FTF sell/buy (within the state) has no paperwork requirements. An AR is a rifle, no different than any other rifle. Even a stripped lower, if sold from one person to another requires no paperwork. What requires paperwork is if you are buying from a FFL or if the rifle or lower is coming from out of state. That does require paperwork.

be careful though, if the reciever was bought by itself it may have been "registered" as a pistol so that it could be built into an AR pistol. If this is the case it doesn't matter that it is built into a rifle currently, it's still a pistol to the PSP. and must be transfered as one.

If OTOH it is a name brand fully built rifle, the chances are that it was home built is less of a possibility.

get the serial number and call the MFG. You should be able to find out if it's a rifle or pistol.

Unless it was sold as a receiver.
