So I just saw the news report. At least the cop is saying that it's the first range incident he's heard of in his 22 years. What I don't understand is, the homeowner was holding up a bullet. Why in the hell isn't this bullet in the hands of the police, and why aren't they doing tests on it to PROVE where it came from, or, just as important to Philly Shooter, where it DIDN'T come from???

Yes, however I really don't think the roofer is telling the truth. He just wants to fix two holes. Neither news story's showed the second round. And when they showed the roof of the house, I could only make out one hole (not saying there isn't another one) when the "roofer" pointed to the location of the "second" round it was only 2-3 feet away from the other round which should have been visible on the shot of the roof that they showed. Now what are the chances of 2 rounds from that rifle hitting that close at that distance without aiming at it? I really don't know lol. Something is just odd about this whole thing. I am not saying that this didn't really happen, just that it seems to be getting very odd.

Here's a couple of screen shots of the round(s) in question:

Does this look deformed at all to anyone here, or are my eyes not what they used to be? Now I am truly starting to wonder if this bullet could travel .83 miles through the trees and penetrate a roof and look like this.

No. The damn bullet should have gone a hell of a lot further IF it came from your rifle.

At least the police sgt said it's the first time he heard of a bullet from Wicens range hitting a house in his 23 years of service in Buckingham Township.
Yeah, I think I missed that the first time around.

My thought process was more along the lines of . . .
  • by all accounts, the BIL has never touched a rifle before
  • doesn't notice that his sights are high
  • doesn't notice where his bullets are hitting the berm
  • is dealing with bolt action 7.62x54R recoil for the first time
. . . and then manages to place two, not one, but two rounds onto a house 0.83 miles away.

So without understanding his sight picture, he manages to clear the berm twice in exactly the same hold (elevation and windage) and hits a target twice he can't even see. The wind also cooperates by staying constant for both shots.

In the meantime, Wicen's maintains two safety officers at all times to watch two shooters and nobody saw this happen on the line.

By the way, NBC 10 had their own news crew at the Harbert's house. So that makes two national news affiliates (CBS and NBC) covering the story independently.

Great, just what we need.

Not that it matters but I think it was the roofer who found a second bullet.
So far I think it is roofer finds second bullet, but no one claims it's a match on camera.

What would be the odds of placing two mis launched rounds in the exact same proximity, within inches............ man this stinks................

Put another way what are the odds of a completely inexperienced shooter, to shoot a group a couple inches apart at 3/4 of a mile...........

Here's another picture from NBC10.com without the evidence bag.

If everyone gets to handle it, they're not even pretending to maintain a chain of evidence. I guess that's good for you phillyshooter.

I just got off the phone with my BIL. He said he's spoken to the homeowner who said he doesn't plan on filing suit on my BIL or me, which is a relief. As far as repairs go, he only asked my BIL to pay 50% of the damages, he knows it was an accident and didn't know he was in direct line of fire from the range when he bought the home 6 months ago.
