I made out pretty well. I have slight hearing loss, and no real tinitus to speak of.
I disagree that you can't use hearing protection because you need to hear what's going on. From the second you are in the wrong position next to someone else's muzzle, you can hear far less for quite some time than you would hear had you been wearing hearing protection. Of course, you don't wear hearing protection before the shooting starts, and don't put it on during. Like I said, I got off pretty easy. And although the shooting would probably knock my hearing out the fastest, the jet engines (getting on) and the noise (jumping out) was always the most irritating to me. They gave us questionnaires about who had used hearing protection and our experiences with and without it, and since. I would think by this point they could have come up with something. Sometimes I'm sure it bothers the hell out of her. It seems worse when people start talking and then turn and walk away while still talking. Sounds like a bunch of old guys here but I'm sure it's just a matter of what we did in the past without protecting our ears or not being able to protect our ears. you would think with todays advances in medicine and surgical procedures, they could do something. That's just me hoping .Later 27hand |

There are occasions where you don't have the luxury of knowing what is coming at you when you turn the corner and I said it makes it hard to hear your orders - especially when there is all sort of noise going on. As far as positioning: Stacked around a corner and there's not much you can do other than to be 2 feet from the ejection port of your buddy below you unless your on the bottom. I actually took an ejected shell down the front of my shirt behind my flak vest and that burned like a MF'r ... I fell back trying to get it out. Everyone thought I was shot. Funny afterwards - kinda. |

Old? Only 39 and been listening to the ringing for almost 20 years. Dad and Unc only brought out the muffs when the handguns came out. Never for rifle and shotgun shooting. Loud music and farm equipment did a number on my ears before I even got out of high school.
