Gun buy-backs... What a scam! What a deal!
After reading about the Oakland gun "buy-back" that happened a day or two ago, I can't help but wonder how people can actually believe this to be sound policy?
How can any logical American think that buying "criminals" potentially stolen guns back with no recourse at an inflated premium could ever make a dent in crime?
Here are some reasons why gun buy-backs are stupid.
#1. They use tax payer money.
#2. Every time a gun buy-back is planned, gun enthusiasts run out to their favorite pawn shop to buy a Lorcin or a Raven Arms MP25, Jiminez, etc. for $40, then turn it around no-questions-asked at a state run buy-back for $250. That sure is wise spending of tax payer money, wouldn't you say?
#3. Working criminals treat their firearm as they would a secretary's phone or a lawyer's copying machine. They don't just "up and sell" things that are vital to their trade, especially for a considerably trivial amount of money (at least to a coke dealer or strong-armed robber).
#4. Every minute a gun buy-back is purchasing firearms, gun stores around the country are selling ten times that many guns to civilians. If guns were banned, yes it would make sense to buy up firearms to get them off the street. Thank god that is not the case. Using the same logic, the government could pay criminals to turn in their bolt cutters, etc etc.
#5. Gun "Buy-backs" imply that the guns were previously owned by the state.
#6. Gives criminals an easy dumping ground for firearms used in crimes. Gun buy-backs use no-questions-asked policy to lure criminals in, but no enforcement exists to arrest those that have turned in murder weapons, etc.
I know I'll be keeping my ear to the ground for the next buy-back. How about ya'll?
