interesting pic my dad sent me...

my dad was in Tokyo for his buisness last year, and took some interesting pictures.
first Building in picture was transformer sub station No5 near what used to be factory for Tachikawa Aircraft Company Ltd during failing days of WWII(built mostly training plane, and some experimental plane), as well as putting together engine for Nakajima Ki-44.
It was shot up by P-51Mustang, and P-47 Thunderbolt's .50cal machineguns during air raid of August 8th 1945 (7days before the end of WWII).

And funny thing is that I guess Fuji Heavy industry that took over the power station repaired substation function, but never bother to repair building itself, and building was used way it is in picture until 1995.

Secondand third pics is some wearhouse(which is being used still) near by I guess....

I just thought was interesting pics he sent me...

Interesting. There are buildings like this in Europe including a bombed out church in France & a shot up building in Budapest but I am surprised the Japanese would leave it like that.

Wow, very interesting..A bit of History. Just think, the guy that pulled the trigger may very well be gone now. Our WWII vets are disappearing fast. My Dad is still with us and turns 88 in a couple of weeks. He talks about it once in awhile, but it takes some doing to get him going on it.

A house in Sharpsburg, MD is a tourist attraction. It has a Union cannon ball stuck in its wall, shot there during the Battle of Antietam.

I was too. But I guess there are more things left to rot more place then you realise.
Things like underground shelters and cave factorys are simply too many and too massive to destroy. So they pretty much left it alone i guess..

Along the Atlantic coast on Rt 1 in DE there are still all of those WWII lookout towers. But, thank god there are no bullet holes in them, huh? I saw some interesting bullet=pocked buildings in Germany and Austria in the late 90s. There seemed to be a lot in the former East Berlin.

It's some evidence of interesting and grave history.

Thanks for posting the pics!! They also have bunkers and gun placements with tracks in San Francisco. I didn't take any pics but should have. They overlooked the entrance into the bay. If your ever there just go across the golden gate bridge and hang a right up the steep hill!

Really neat pic, Rifleman. Me and the lady have been thinking of a weekend trip to that area. Care to suggest any B&Bs in the area? There have to be soe historically significant ones, right?
