Default "Red Head" Gun Safes

...from Basspro. Any reason I should avoid these? I've been reading that they used to be made by a reputable company called Granite but recently they've been made in China.

I'm in need of a safe. I was looking at something like this
http://www.basspro.com/RedHeadreg;-O...SSSELL_PRODUCT

I don't mind spending around the $1000 mark, but I don't want anything heavier than 400lbs as this is going on a second floor. I don't want crap, but I don't need the best that's ever been built. I want something that I can go to the store and pick-up.

Nothing is "safe", only "safer". Any safe will deter a common burglar, but a pro is going to take one down unless you go big. A made in USA safe is no guarantee of better quality. But I'll happily let you buy ME one and I will let you know how it does if someone ever does break in.

Hahaha, of course nothing is thief proof. But any safe is better than what I have now. Plus it's help with organization and while it's not fire "proof", they'd still be protected along with anything non-firearm related that's valuable.

Personally, it looks like it would be a good "second floor" safe other than the fact that we don't know what gauge it is and there are no lugs on the top or bottom of the door..

You could move down to the first floor and get a "big safe" but the argument there is always that the first floor is easier to access through windows etc, and your on a $1,000 dollar budget, so again I say that would be a decent choice..

Much better than a Stack On or Sentry anyways.
