Re: ballistol oil?
Never used it, but I would be hard pressed to try anything else after Weapon Shield.

Re: ballistol oil?
I have used it for more than 10 years, It work well for me, might be some newer high tech products out there that now work better. It really does “draw” oil in to parts to lubricate them much better than lots of other products that I have used in the past.
Ballistol is NON TOXIC and you could drink the stuff (people have) how may other gun products can you say that about, or have to worry about washing your hands every time you use it because it is toxic oil lubricate.
Note I have not tried weapon shield, yet

I use it on my Glocks. Works just fine. Smells funky, though.

Re: ballistol oil?
I like that it "mixes" with water... interesting product.
I rubbed it into the stock of my SKS after the finish was dulled from using mineral spirits to remove some Cosmoline. It made the wood look great without giving it a shiny finish.
I use it on all kinds of stuff. Outside. (cuz it does smell funky)I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: ballistol oil?
I've used it. I don't mind the smell, I think it smells better than a lot of stuff.
I've been meaning to pick up more of the stuff.

Used it for years. Great stuff. Clean with 50:50 mix Ballistol & water, dry and then lube with 100%. Metal and wood. Exceptionally good on black powder firearms.

Re: ballistol oil?
Ballistol is TOXIC. it contains ISOBUTYL ALCOHOL, which is a solvent and is toxic and has been shown to cause tumor growth in rats. I admit that it is safer than 98% of the other products, but it is still very toxic.

Re: ballistol oil?
Water is a solvent, but that's beside the point.
Isobutanol is not *that* toxic. It only has an NFPA 704 health hazard rating of "1". Heck, everything causes cancer in laboratory rats, especially the ones that live in California.
However, whoever said you could drink it is giving very bad info.Last edited by RandomTask; February 6th, 2008 at 11:46 AM.
