Default Handgun transfer

I recently bought a handgun from a person and did the transfer in person at a gun shop. The gun shop did the PICS check on me (I think that's what it was) to see if I legally allowed to own a handgun, I am.

Anyway, when doing this type of transfer is the serial number of the gun also run to see if it was stolen?

Thanks in advance,
Bill

Does anyone think the state police run the s/n's for stolen when they receive the records from the gun shops? You know, as they enter them in their non-existent gun data base?

I don't think I have the authority to make those rules.

The only thing the PICS call transfer is ID data about the buyer. The PICS center has no idea about what type of gun is being transfered, the call is the same for handguns, longguns and NFA weapons.

The only way the St Police might find a stolen weapon has been transfered is when they are manually entering the handgun transfer forms into their "database" and just happen to run a cross check in the NCIC - which if they have the time, I wouldn't put it past them.

Keep in mind also, that for a gun to be in NCIC/CLEAN as "stolen", it needs to be entered as such.

Thanks for the info guys.

I've bought two used guns now and I was wondering if there was any kind of stolen, used in a crime, type check during the transfer. Kind of scary to spend a few hundred bucks on a gun and not know.

There have periods of my life that resemble that Murphy guy's law.
