Default Disappointing New Taurus

With all of the gift certificates I received over X-mas, I thought it was time to buy a new pistol. I've always liked to Beretta 92 design, so I stopped at French Creek Outfitters this past saturday. I happened across a Taurus 92 9mm that was all stainless & couldnt pass it up. I've read lots of reviews & couldnt barely find one person that had any problems with this pistol.

So I throw down my gift certs & pay the balance ($61) for the pistol, buy a box of ammo & head to the range. Out of the box the thing was shooting pretty god & getting better with each clip. All in all, so far I'm extremely happy with the new taurus.

I take the new baby home & take it apart to clean it & lube it so I can go back to the range tomorrow to continue the break in.

Sunday morning I'm at the range & every so often, the hammer isnt dropping or its VERY delayed in dropping when I squeeze the trigger. This happened 6-7 times in the box of 50 rounds I fired. So I go home & take it apart again to look it over (Maybe somehow I put it together incorrectly?) It appears the tiny lever (Technical term) that rides up & down on the slide as the trigger is pulled is catching somewhere inside the slide. After several hours I gave up. When the slide is off the gun the trigger functions fine. With the slide on it still is randomly hanging up. This bites!

So monday morning I go back to FCO and show the salesman my problem. He says to me "Yeah, thats a problem. You'll have to see our girl that handles returns." I'm thinking "this really sucks having to send back a pistol 1 day after I bought it & only having shot 50 rounds thru it!" the salesman then expailns that they dont even look over the gun to see if its something that can be easily fixed or if I possibly put something together wrong. (Which is almost impossible as I only removed the slide, spring & pin)

So I go over to the return dept lady & she tells me that taurus has told her the average turn around is 6-8 weeks. So I give her the pistol, explain the problem & she attempts to write down the issues I have with it.

So thats where I'm at with my new Taurus. Really pisses me off to say the least.

Sorry for the long story, just need to tell someone.

Chris

That sux. Sorry that you got a bad one. Taurus will fix you up.

I think I can make you feel a little better...

My father in law bought a new Chevy 2 weeks ago and slammed a deer with it yesterday. Dosent even have 500 miles on it before going to the body shop.

No luck.

That really does suck i had my M&P compact for about a week or two and had to send it back. The mag release button was out of spec and was getting stuck.

At the range it went something like this

Bang X12 slide locks back

eject mag, reload and as i goto close the slide the mag fell out and hit the ground looked at the weapon and noticed the mag release button was stuck down

S&W took about 3-4 weeks from me to them and they even paid for shipping

Id make Taurus pay for the shipping overnighting a pistol isnt cheep

Thumbs down Re: Disappointing New Taurus

I just bought a Taurus 1911 SS this past weekend after months and months of waiting. I got the thing back home and shot 4 clips through it when the Safety Broke. I do not know what caused the problem but it left the gun useless. Well I take it back to the Gun Dealer and let them know that I was very dissapointed with the Gun. After a couple minutes of talking I asked if I could just trade the gun for the XD45 ACP 5" Tatical. The trade was made with $106 given back to me. I went and shot the XD and really, really, like it better. The 1911 was very accurate out of the box but I cannot rely on a gun that breaks so quickly. I read the day after that this has been an issue with a couple other people and that Taurus has the worst customer Service in the Business.

Next time you'd be better off (and quicker) sending the gun directly to Taurus yourself.

I'm sorry to hear your issues with your Taurus.
I do truly understands your frustration....

I bought the Charles Daly HP back in 12/07/07. I shot 50rds though it.
It shot pretty good, and all. then I discovered that my frame had a hole where there should be no hole(obviously a crappy QC. air or dirt got trapped during casting process. Should have NEVER left factory, but it did ).

Well, anyway, i shipped gun out. They recieved it 12/11/07.

I called today, and their response was "We'll get to it very soon sir"... Piss me off.

I would have, but I remembered the saleman saying to me when I bought the pistols..."If you have any problems with the pistol in the first 30 days, FCO will send it back to the factory for you." So I didnt have to pay to ship the pistol back to Taurus. That would have pissed me off even more (If thats possible)

One of the reasons I bought the Taurus over the Beretta was that Taurus has a lifetime warranty. I never figured on having to use it so soon though.

I've since bought 2 other guns so I have something to shoot while the Taurus is being fixed.

Next time consider Charter Arms. (www.charterfirearms.com) I sent a new revolver into them around Thanksgiving time for a minor cosmetic defect and I got the revolver back inside of 2 weeks (even taking into account Thanksgiving)!

In addition, I called them a few times and the owner's spoke directly to me and where as nice as could be.

Oh yeah, and they have a lifetime warranty as well.
