Just for everyone's information, finally got my approval letter. It took 12 weeks.

Let's see how long it takes for the machine to be fixed since I only have 90 days to pick up my permit.....

I've said this before and it bears repeating: the Philly PD is full of, well, shit.

Philly issued about 2.4 times the permits as my resident county sheriff did in 2006. My guy, with an office staff that's less in total than the number of people in Philly's tracking unit manages to turn new applications around in 5 days. That's 5 days from the time you show up--including calling your references and mailing you the permit (you don't have to go pick it up). Renewal took 20 minutes, and most of that time was filling out the app and waiting while the PSP decided to have a "brief PICS outage."

They (PPD) drag it out because that's what the asshat mayor and asshat police commissioner want. Until someone in Philly with the money to do so files a criminal complaint and then a lawsuit (when Lynn "The Ditz" Abraham shoots down the PCC), this will continue.

I'd suggest moving.

I applied Dec 13th, they closed the office for two weeks right after I went there so I'm unsure how long it will take to get the permit. What a load of crap. Does seem odd that this coincides with the new commissioner starting his job.

i got the approval letter so i called again today and they said they would start issuing permits again Monday. i heard there was a delay because the system was down, they were awaiting the commissioners signature and the id machine was down so who knows. when i was there i heard an employee say there was an 8 week backup so god only know when your permit will clear.. good luck

I applied for my CCW in Phila on 18JAN2008 and received my approval letter 01MAR2008. Took about 5 weeks as opposed to the 8-10 weeks they forecasted when I applied. Five weeks is not bad for Phila...

I grew up in the sticks of Western Penna, and I agree, the process would have been quicker. But I was shocked to receive my approval letter in only 5 weeks time!

Makes me wonder if Ramsey, despite being seemingly openly anti-gun, at least has the honor and ethics to follow the laws he is responsible to enforce. Being the eternal optimist, I'll look at it that way. I'll add that so far, he's acting the part of a true professional and for that he has my respect. My hope is he keeps it up and I don't have reason to think he won't.

Thanks for the report by the way. And congrats on getting your LTCF.
