Default Does anyone have a copy of a new PA handgun transfer form (showing SSNs optional)

This form was promised by the state police to gun dealers months ago - where the %%##$& is it?

I just had 1000 come in last week and still nothing on it about SS# being optional and I know for fact that if we send them in without the SS#, they still send them back to us with the area highlighted to be filled in and returned to them.

I will never understand the problem, sorry.

When we call PICS for an approvel to purchase, the first thing they repeat to us for verification is your SS#. If by chance the call goes to an operator then they ask if we can verify SS# if we say we can't then they will insist that we have the customer verify even if on a seperate piece of paper. If the customer refuses, they WILL refuse to approve the sale if ID is in question.

Don't get me wrong here, we have always written down the SS# that is given to us by PICS on one of our business cards (if the customer leaves it blank on the forms) and ask the customer to verify it and then let them keep the card.

Your SS# is used for nothing more than to verify who you are. So optional should be the norm but it seems that some think that they protect themselves from ID theft by NOT giving SS# to a federaly license firearm dealer that needs to jump thru hoops on a reguler basis. In reality it is no different then giving it to a bank. You stand a bigger chnce of ID theft with a bank then you do an FFL. Just think, every teller in every brank of your bank can pull up your account and SS# in an instant. The only people with access to your 4473 or record of sale at an FFL is the man with the keys to frieproof file cabinet. The Record of sale is sent to PSP firearms so granted they do have access to it there but they also only need your OLN to pull up your lifes history AND your SS#.

If you are afraid that they are keeping a database with a list of guns you buy under your SS#. sorry but it is done with your drivers license number and not your SS#.

In a nut shell, the problem is that the PSP is breaking the law.

4473 (fed form) has always said optional.
Are you referring to that?
We are talking about the current (5-2006) version of the SP-4 (Pennsylvania Application/Record of Sale) does not say optional.

IOW: Handgun "white form"
