Can a legal US Resident (green Card Holder) Purchase a firearm for the purpose of home protection. Rifle or pistol?

I had no problem when I got mine earlier this year. Went through very fast despite some initial concerns from the guys at the shop.

A Legal resident has all the same purchasing power as an American, Actually, I would say my A card makes the whole process easyer. First gun took a day, no other gun after took more then 5 minutes, the A # is in the NICS and makes things that much easyer.
