Ok, the logo on our hats. Didnt study latin/ greek, whichever 1 in the same. Could 1 of our educated members school me on the translation and possibly, if not asking to, much a pronunciation would be intresting.

"Μολών λαβέ" was the response of King Leonidas I of Sparta to Xerxes I of Persia at the onset of the Battle of Thermopylae. Xerxes, whose forces vastly outnumbered the Spartans and their allies, offered to spare the lives of Leonidas and his few thousand defenders if only they would lay down their weapons. Instead, the Spartans held Thermopylae for three days and, while they died to the last man, they inflicted serious damage on the Persian army, delaying it and essentially preventing the conquest of the Greek Peninsula.

When he uttered this response Leonidas was completely aware that he and all his men were doomed. Leonidas had known this since before leaving Sparta. So his response "Μολών λαβέ" might best be rendered into English as "After you finish coming here (we will be dead) then you can take our weapons."

The Greek phrase in transliterated as "Molon Labe" in Roman letters. "Labe" is pronounced as two syllables: the "a" is as in "father", and the "e" is somewhat like the "e" in "bet". The "b" is pronounced like the English "b" in classical Greek, but as a "v" in modern Greek.

The Greek grammatical construction has no direct equivalent in English. You could roughly translate it as "come and get them". However, it might be closer to the original sense to translate it as: "after you have come here and defeated me, then it will be yours to take". In any case, it expresses much the same thought as "over my dead body" or "from my cold, dead hands".

Only the best damned Group Shoot east of anywhere...

Don't freak out.

These hats aren't available to just anyone.
With the help of BearTitan, who owns a promotions company, we've been doing small batches of hats/shirts to "sell" to the people who attend the group shoots.(With Dan's permission)
The profits are then sent to Dan as a donation to the forum.

Did not think that I freaked out. Sorry if I offended. I have a PAFOA shirt but the message had always been that there were no hats when several of us had ask in the past. Are the hats officially for sales to members or are they just a personal thing?

Sherm, the hat's you may have seen and/or heard about were for purchase by PAFOA members that attended certain group shoots out in Pittsburgh at the PMSC Range, they were pre-ordered prior to the shoots. They were not produced by the PAFOA, they were done by a PAFOA/PMSC member who is a VP at a company that makes such items, and after costs were realized the "left over" was donated to the PAFOA. They were UNofficial PAFOA hats & shirts.

The only official PAFOA item (shirt) is currently out of production, until a better way to sell and ship them is figured out, from what I recall.
