Default trading shotguns

My friend and I are going to trade duck hunting shotguns. He lives in maryland and I live in PA. I know that maryland and PA don't have shotgun registration. Does this mean my friend and I can just write up a bill of sale and trade guns? Thanks, new here. Brad

Nope, no can do. This would be an interstate transfer. They must be done via an FFL holder. It's not where you do it but the state of residents of the parties involved.

If you were both PA residents and you did the transfer in PA that would be an Intrastate transfer and be legal under PA state law. If you were both MD residents and did the transfer in MD you would need to follow MD law. Again an Intrastate transfer.

rwilson 452 has it right on the money. Interstate transfers (whether money is exchanged or not) must go through an licensee.
