The surplus ammo uses a berdan (sp) primer you need to use a special de-capping tool. But other than that, go for it.
P.S. The surplus stuff I bought was only about $0.07 a round IIRC. Hardly seems worth the trouble or cost of the dies.

Yes , try using brass from s&b , some others sold empty brass from the factory but it cost a good bit , I used to buy loaded s&b ammo for 10 bucks a box but those days are over and bullets .308 in size may not work so well try .311
