Read this, it's about quarter-way down.

Sad. It's to the point that I'm frightened myself to go into Philly. |

Does anyone want to cater to a criminal who's job is made easier by making the good people defenseless, because that is exactly what happens when this line of thinking is used to make decisions. This is why I feel it is very important for everyone who believes in the 2nd amendment and the right to self-protection to refute these arguments and point out the flaws with the other one. I challenge anyone who is against CCW to tell this to a victim who's life was saved only because he used a gun in defense, or to a woman on a college campus who was raped and could do nothing to stop the attack. I'll bet they wouldn't even dare, because they are too wrapped up in their flawed thinking and tired arguments which do not work when applied in the real world. All these shooting sprees you heard about lately, Virginia Tech, Columbine, the Utah Mall, the Nebraska mall, the Cleveland school shooting, all of them have been in gun-free zones, so that should make the rest of the people think what happens should there be an attack in a declared gun-free zone. That is why I feel people who are licensed should be allowed to carry everywhere, so long as they are not under the influence of any substance that might impair their ability to think rationally. I feel that the problem is not with guns, but with creating gun free zones, poverty, gangs, and more criminals catching a break from the law. What will it take for people to finally realize this?

Someone else mentioned having to put up with metal detectors. What happens if you are carrying in Philly, and say, want to visit the Liberty Bell. They have metal detectors. Do they have a place to check you firearm? |

I've lived here for 7 years now and the worst crime I've witnessed was a guy walk out of a bar with a purse.

And then I moved to Ardmore, where, within a year, a guy got his brains blown out all over my sidewalk in a gun deal gone bad. Less than 1/4 mile from the Lower Merion PD. But, yeah, I suppose for the most part Philly really isn't that bad -- in center/old city, at least. It's really a pity, though, about West and South Philly.

I guess I should repost what I said. The reports scare people away. Philly is pretty safe, but according to the news it's a den of murder and guns. I myself go to Philly and wander around center city all the way down to penns landing after midnight and feel safe.

Yeah, liberty bell has metal detectors and no, I don't recall seeing a place to check your firearm. Was a couple years ago though.. Don't think the Mint had check stations either, but I wasn't carrying at the time and wasn't paying attention.

I live here, all day and night, every day and night. I'm still alive, no wound scars, same wallet in my pocket I've had for years and years, etc. Some jiggy stuff now and then but I've always managed to avoid bad trouble. Bad stuff happens in the good neighborhoods here, but it's not a whole lot different from the burbs. Really. People who are afraid of philly should go to dinner in center city and walk around a little. You won't be swallowed up by gangs of demons the instant you cross the county line. Now north philly, southwest, west (past Penn) . . . don't go there if you don't have to. Center city and its surrounds, A OK. |
