You don't want to get stopped by the police some day, have your sidearm checked in the non-existent registry and it comes up in your father-in-law's name.
To further prove there is NO database kept in PA.....I overheard a traffic stop on the radio the other night and the operator had a firearm in the vehicle. County replied to the officer that, "The pistol comes back registered to your party". The operator of the car had a PA license. But there is NO database kept in PA.

no he can't give it to you, but hypothetically you could do this.. get the 3 of you and the gun in the room, he hands it to his daughter, who then hands it to you...

I wanted to do this, but he is in poor health and I don't think he'd be able to.

If it were mine, and were to remain in the home/safe, then I personally wouldn't fret over it.
What a great gift!

The recipient of the handgun has no legal obligation to do anything other than say, "Thank you" when receiving the gift. The father in-law, however, is required to effect the transfer through a firearms dealer or the sheriff's office.

Offer me a firearm? I'll accept it. I'm not breaking any law, you are.

That's what I'm going to do. I was just curious as to what PA law required. If an issue did ever come up, I would just use the father to daughter gift. I don't see it as ever being an issue, but you never know.

Yes, it is a great gift. My FIL is a special man. He has a son, but he's not into guns. My FIL knows how much I like guns and knew just how much it would mean to me.
It'll be handed down to one of my two sons
