Default DURA COAT

Has anyone else here had their firearm 'Dura Coated'.
Mine is newly dura coated and I am having some difficulty cleaning. It just won't get clean.
Anybody have any ideas or tips.
Thanks

I thought you spray painted it. oops. SteveD did his pistol give him a PM. We were talking about dura coating a few other things, he said it takes 30 days to fully cure. Did you wait that long, before you shot it?

Before it was dura coated I used Hoppes then Weapons Shield. Sparkling clean.
After dura coating the gun looked filthy. I guess because of the color the filth is obvious. It was all black on the front of the slide and all the way up to the sight. I tried Weapons Shield and Hoppes and I used about 100 little squares and they were all filthy and the gun was still dirty. The inside (disassemble) wasn't too bad just where the gun is dura coated. I used a brass brush on the slide lightly and the dura coat started to come off. So I stopped. I was just wondering if there was a better cleaner for a dura coated gun.

No. Its dura coated. The guy said it would take 30 days to cure but I could shoot it right away with out worry. I had just picked it up 3 days before the last shoot. Maybe mine has to do with the double processing they have to do to change from original black to the pink color I got.

i dont have anything duracoated, but I have seen a guy throw a gun across a parkinglot that was duracoated and it didnt scratch at all so if its coming off with a brass brush i'd say it wasnt done right or someone didn't wait the 30days..

But i'm no expert on that, just my opinion after a few experiences with it.

Its been 30 days since I got it done. And I just tried to clean it last night. I left it dirty since the last shoot (me bad). I was afraid to clean it sooner. I figured I would let the paint cure. I'm trying to find a pic from the last shoot of my filthy gun. I wonder if there is a special stuff just for dura coated guns.

I refinished my .45 last year with Duracoat and have been quite happy with the results. Granted it's the black finish, but I have no problems getting it clean or with the finish flaking or peeling off. I use either Hoppes or Weaponshield to clean it. I was looking at getting some in Desert Tan for an AR project...who did yours?

Randall Nemenz in Waterford (next town over from me). He does beautiful work, showed me some of the long guns he did, absolutely gorgeous. He does custom work. Even adds some fleck to some of the camo patterns. I guess i'll continue to use the Weapons Shield since it smells better than the Hoppes and seems less dry.
But its still allot of work cleaning the coating.
