ABC News Doing Gun Story 11/27/07 6:30 PM EST

Came across this on OCDO

They're doing a multi night story titled Officer Down. Tuesday night's is called The Arms Race between police and criminals. I'm willing to bet the story will be how police depts have to use ARs because the bad guys are all using AKs and machine guns.

Someone wanna TIVO it and upload it to youtube?

My TIVO feels rather unclean after that little detour from it's regularly scheduled viewing habits, thank you very much.

I would find it hard to characterize this coverage as news unless of course you are an ABC journalist, so here goes ---

Occasionally criminals shoot people with rifles.

A rifle has greater reach and better accuracy than either a handgun or a shotgun.

This despicable state of affairs is a direct result of congress letting the AWB expire.

Now just substitute "assault weapon" for "rifle", add some quick editing cuts of bullet holes and imagine a rapid, breathless voice over. I think they felt their coverage was neutral since everyone knows that AR = good guy and AK = bad guy. Of course there was no mention that this doesn't sound nearly as exciting if you use the term semi-auto rifle instead of AR/AK.

Unfortunately I now have to disconnect my TIVO and give it a good scrubbing with lye soap, followed by an alcohol based disinfectant. A double taping of every show from the Outdoor Channel's "Wednesday Night on the Range" and everything should be as good as new.

Another thread was started mentioning this link (http://abcnews.go.com/WN/story?id=3919547) with video. This assumes of course that you really have the stomach to watch the two minutes of video without vomiting. It was really atrocious, even by today's remarkably low standards of mainstream journalism.
