Transfering of assualt rifles

I have read on here in another thread about this subject, but I am not clear on what the actual law is on this matter. Lets say I want to buy, and or sell an ak, or an ar15. Do I need to go thru an ffl, or can it be exchanged like any other rifle? I have been under the impression that is can be a face to face, as with a shot gun or etc. Although my recent read has me wondering.

well they arent assault weapons,they are semi auto sporting rifles... but as long as they are not NFA(makes it a firearm) you can do FTF transfer no diff than a shotgun or bolt action rifle

1. They ARE NOT assault rifles, they NEVER were assault rifles, they NEVER WILL BE assault rifles (without modification).

2. They ARE semi-automatic loading sporting rifles that happen to resemble military rifles.

3. They can bought and sold just like any other sporting rifle. No paperrwork, other than what you and the buyer/seller want to do. FTF is perfectly legal as is a private party shipping to another private party within the state.

They're both right as long as the seller and buyer are both residents of Pa, and the transaction takes place in Pa.

hmmm Interesting. They are not assault rifles? I was reading on here about the assualt weapons ban, and both the ak and the ar where listed on thier aw list.

Can you clear up my misunderstanding? Am I correct in my assumption, that the proposed ban that I read about on here, would then classify the weapons as assault rifles? I certainly do not think you guys are wrong. I just want to have as much understanding as possible on this subject.

The federal (so-called) "assault weapons" ban is no more. Gone.

There is no "assault weapons" ban in PA.

A rifle is a rifle.

NFA items (full auto, SBR, etc) are NFA. items. Not what you are asking about but added for clarity before someone brings them up.

It's a matter of words. A deliberate confusion on the part of the anti gun crowd. you have two different expressions:
assault rifle, it is a select fire firearm. in other words capable of full auto or burst fire.

Assault weapon Technically undefined but generally any thing that looks like an assault rifle but is semi automatic.

Transfer of Assault rifles is under the NFA of 1934.

Transfer of "assault weapons" there is no law in PA on assault weapons thus they are treated and any other sporting arm.

Ok got it. douche bag no 1 may call them assault rifles, but the state of pa calls them rifles!

The term "assault rifle" is something that the anti-gun crowd and media labeled them to make them sound more scary to the general sheep population.

But yes, like everyone else said, in Pennsylvania you can transfer face to face. You only have to go through an FFL for handguns, and NFA firearms.

It is in your best interest to have a bill of sale for both parties though.
