Ok, my only experience with them was purchasing ammo the other day, and browsing the store, so I can't give a strong recommendation, but this gives you somewhere to start looking. They did have a pretty decent selection of both handguns and rifles/shotguns (Can't even think of the name of the shop,Miller's Gun shop perhaps? Here's directions)

From Lock Haven, take US 220S to the Salona exit. Turn right off the ramp, then at the light turn left onto SR 64. The shop is on the right, a mile or so down the road. Good sized building, but the parking lot is squeezed between the building and the road and is long and kinda narrow.

In the Williamsport, there's a Gander Mountain in one of the "outparcels" at the Lycoming Mall.

That's what I can think of off the top of my head, I'm sure someone more local than me can think of some other places.

Thanks to all you folks. I have a direction to go Monday, with a trip to Williamsport. And somewhere down the track, maybe get to meet you folks, in person.

I went to college in Williamsport, and I can recomend Sauers Trading in South Williamsport without any problem. The owner, Jon was always fair with this poor college student. I still stop in when I am in the area.

I would call to get his hours. I think that he may be closed Mondays.

It has been a few years for me, but cross the river at the bridge near the Pennsylvania College of Tech. At the light, turn Left. He is a little ways down on the left. He used to have a cannoe on the porch.

Sauers Trading
1100 West Southern Avenue
South Williamsport, PA 17702

Welcome to the forum John. And if you ever need any local help, let me offer my assistance as I grew up near Jersey Shore and currently work in Williamsport.

As for gun shops, there are a few good ones that I visit. First, west of Lock Haven is Miller's Gun Shop. Someone mentioned them before, I believe. They have a good selection of guns as well as hunting equiptment. But I have found that their prices aren't always a deal. Not necessarily high, but just average, and they are not always willing to work with you on price.

Next, there are 2 shops in Jersey Shore that I trust. One is Nationals Sporting Goods. They are a small shop, but very experienced and great guys to help you out. And for a small shop, they have a good selection of new and used guns. The other shop in Jersey Shore is where I purchased 2 of my pistols at. It is Graham's Sporting Goods. Steve Graham runs the shop as his second job and is only usually open at night. I always call to make sure he is going to be open before I plan on stopping in. He doesn't have many guns to touch in the shop, but has always given me the best price around.

In Williamsport, there are a couple shops. First is Troxell's Sporting Goods on Lycoming Creek Road. Again, a smallish shop, but a good selection of guns and usually will work with you on price. My father bought a couple rifles from there and I wouldn't hesitate to go back (and do to browse from time to time). Also in Williamsport is Tripolis Triggers. Haven't ever been in their shop (well, maybe once a long time ago), but have heard many people who had good experiences with them. And I believe they now have an indoor range. As for Sauer's Trading Post in South Williamsport, I am not sure if he is open much anymore. Jon got caught up in some trouble with some straw purchases and doesn't have the shop open very much anymore. I drive be every now and then and never see it open. So call to check first before you plan to stop.

As for the large chain stores like Gander Mountain at the Lycoming Mall. They are good to look and touch guns, but their prices are really, really high. They have a huge selection of rifles and shotguns that you can pick up and get to know, but I would suggest checking on price elsewhere before buying.

That is all I can think of offhand. Again, if you need any more specifics as far as location, directions, etc, I can help you out. But this should get you started and well on your way.

Here are the addresses for the shops I listed:

Penn Tech class of 06 So I was always looking for someplace to look at guns up there during the week

I can't remember the name of the shop exactly, but I know it was out past the high school make a right hand turn near the car dealership and head back into the woods from there. "All American" or something similar to that. I wasn't too happy after leaving that shop with my magwell "opened up" on my Yugo SKS without asking me first.

I'll throw my hat in the ring for Sauers on the southside. The owner (I'm assuming "Jon" was always nice to me, even if I was just coming in "too look around". Call to get the hours to make sure, smaller shop but I always seemed to find something to hold in there. Only complaint there was that a spam can of 7.62x54r cost about twice as much as it did at a shop closer to home.

I also graduated from Penn Tech in Dec 06.

But I did forget about All American Gun Shop. (The road you turn onto by the car shop, Daugherty's Run Road, is the road I lived on for 15 years. And yes, it is back in the woods.) I have auctually never been to All American, but I had a friend who bought a 10mm pistol of some sort there. He had a good experience there. I believe they are also only open from 6-9 at night. Again, call to check their hours. Other than one friend, I have not heard of anyone else, good or bad, that dealt with All American. But they are another option.

All American Gun Shop
350 Dudek Rd
Williamsport, PA 17701
