anyone know what the Appalachian Trail is under and if you can carry there? I can walk to the trail from my house and love to go up there.

Can I carry a gun?

ATC strongly discourages hikers from carrying firearms. In areas of the Trail corridor where hunting is legal, hikers may see hunters carrying firearms. On National Park Service lands outside national recreation areas, possession of firearms by private citizens is illegal. The prohibition applies on many other public lands as well. Where firearms are allowed, state laws on licenses, registration, and related matters govern.

a lot of state parks are open to hunting as well. you should definitely be wearing lots o' orange everywhere in the woods this time of year.

Good point! I was wrongly thinking of the few State parks that we frequent but you are correct.

I believe that the land through which the AT runs is actually owner, controlled and/or regulated by many different parties. I believe that there is or was once upon a time even a little privately owned land involved. If I remember correctly, the AT goes from north GA to NH or Maine so there is a lot of state park land, national park land and national forest land involved. Each would have their own rules and regulations.

All of that said -- I personally NEVER go hiking, especially in remote areas without my concealed handgun. They key word in the parks especially is concealed. Much of the AT land is bear and big cat country while all of it is in the territory of the bad 2 legged animals.

Of course, the places everyone gets murdered is in the national parks and jersey.
