Where I live there are a lot of hunt clubs and a large portion of the old timers claim the Remington 170gr Core-Lokt hollow point compleatly out does any other load. They claim deer seldom go 20 yards after a good chest shot and usually fall right on the spot, I don't know but that is what the old timers claim.

Personally for PA white tail deer I would probably go with a 150 grain bullet. Three common weights for the 30-30 are 125 Gr, 150 Gr, and 170 Gr. The 125 Gr bullet is suitable for deer-sized game as well as varmints. The 150 Gr and 170 Gr bullets are best suited for larger deer and black bear at short ranges. In thin skined white tail deer I would be concerned about proper bullet expanssion with the heavier 170 Gr bullet.
