I contacted the Attorney General's office directly and spoke with a consultant in the appropriate department.

Hey I have an idea, forget the raffle, forget the rummage sale or whatever else you come up with and just donate what you can to help this guy out, I did, after all whether you're for or against OC we all have a stake in the outcome of this matter, let them take away even one right and they get greedy and look for more.

OK round2

The only legal way that I can see to do this is as follows:

I start a new thread at the appropriate time asking for donations to help Greg Rotz.

A goal of $1,000 will be the benchmark
Members responding to the thread will automatically be entered ( plus a short registration form)to win a gift certificate for $500 to a "sporting goods" store regardless whether or not they donate(hopefully that won't be an issue).
When the goal is met or exceeded a drawing will be made to all those that "registered"

Money will likely be transferred to a PayPal account(any other suggestions?)so I never touch the money. When the goal has been met the money will go to Greg's Paypal account, and someone will end up with a nice piece of change.

I guess a Certificate is better so those on this forum not 21 can also participate.

18 years or older only however.
A short registration form will likely be needed and e-mailed to a e-mail account that I will setup. You will need to divulge some personnel information, and I will destroy the forms after the prize is accepted.

Pa residents only please. I will need some heavy hitters to donate some funds for the gift certificate, and they will be ineligible to win. Any non residents could donate for the certificate so you are still helping out. I will get the ball rolling with $100. PM me if you prefer to remain anonymous. Perhaps some that wanted to purchase numerous chances could donate the money toward the certificate. It still will go for a good cause.

Greg should be directly informed so he is knowledgeable that he may be the recipient of a fair sum of money that which he may need to pay taxes on.

I will need some suggestions as to where to purchase the gift certificate.
I'm sure there are some other details that will need to be sorted out, but that's it in a nutshell.

Again just looking for input.
I floated this idea past the Mckean County DA's office(by suggestion from the AG's office)and initially they said it sounded legal. If I submit my plan to them they agreed to give a "legal ruling" on it. Lord knows how long that will take, but it's all I got. I want to strike while the iron is hot, but we'll have to cool our jets and accept the fact that he may not get the money for some time.

He'll need it regardless.

I would like to appropriate the certificate soon however, so if I get a ruling soon we can kick this thing off quick and not have to wait to get that together. If for some reason this falls apart I will return the funds.

FYI: Even if I could get a permit for a raffle it needs to be secured 30days before the raffle takes place so it would have taken time regardless.

I couldn't agree more. But I guess because of human nature a prize tends to get peoples attention.

Yes. Selling items and "raffles" draw in more money than donations alone.

I hear ya but the time and "extra" money involved that could go to the cause just seems a waste.

If someone buys an item from my rummage sale, that otherwise wouldn't have donated directly to gnbrotz, that money goes to gnbrotz... And it's stuff I had laying around that needed sold anyway. Where is the extra time/work... I'm not following...?

Contact the guys from Glock Talk. They have a few very large scale raffles every year, sending prizes across state lines and the whole nine yards. If they are illegal, and don't get busted...odds are this one wont.

BTW : count me in.

My quoted text in your post was more directly aimed at the time, legalities and all for the raffle, in addition to needing a few "heavy hitters" to donate the gift certificate money. As for your rummage sale there's the cost of packing and shipping and the time getting it to the shipper.

I just find it sad, in a matter that can really affect all gun owners who carry (OC or CC) in the long run, that arm twisting is needed to help out. I really couldn't afford to send what I did, but I did, before any bribery started and if and when I can send more I'll figure out a way to do it.

Sorry for the confusion.

Bill

Not a problem. I was unsure what your angle was. I understand where you coming from and yes, this is more important than just the OC aspect. What many people may not realize is that this sheriff, if allowed to get away with this could perceivably revoke ANYONES LTCF for any reason he pleases.
You'd think more people would see through the OC part and be rightly pissed about the violation of rights part.
