Default Re: Perhaps a gun raffle for gnbrotz

Without reading all the posts, can someone let me know where this stands?

Has a dollar value been established for what our brother needs for legal fees?

With the threads referencing this, I'd like to know. Bump if nothing else.

Thanks,

27hand

Well I haven't officially killed it, but I likely will. Due to legal restrictions I had to change the manner in which fund raiser could be held. If you visit the first post of the thread there is a link to an edit I made explaining the new idea(page 9 I believe), but there has been mot much interest. I would still be willing to attempt to pull this together, but it is unlikely. Anyway even if the raffle could have taken place as originally envisioned I had about enough pledges to cover the cost of the gun and a little more.

As far as goals and so forth this is all I know:

As much as I'd be in for a raffle of some kind, I think Bill's response is the right one.

I took his lead.

Thank you to all that supported this thread and this cause.

I am just beginning to hand out rep. I apologize it took so long. It will take some time due to forum restrictions.

Please continue to support Mr. Rotz.

Visa gift card. Use it anywhere! & I'm in for whatever the end result is! The defense fund is also a top notch idea!

I don't want to needlessly bump this thread. Just to be clear this raffle is for all intensive puposes dead. However I am dedicated to the spirit of what this thread attempted to accomplish. Anyone intersested in advancing this cause or a future defense fund please pm me and I will do what i can to spearhead the campaign. Thanks again

Tom,

Sorry if you intended to not have this bumped again, but I didn't get a chance to publicly announce my thoughts on the issue before the thread had been killed.

If a raffle is illegal, we must not hold a 'raffle' in the eyes of the law. Do something that does not resemble a raffle but may accomplish something similar.

Set up a new donation fund of gnbrotz, we will call this "situation x." Only using Paypal would be best, but to include the most people we would allow any means of payment to be used. Send donation amount to Paypal address of the fund or to a member who will accept payments at his/her physical address.

To prevent skimming or other fraud, a tally of all donations will be posted for all to see. This tally must match what everyone believes they donated, to be substantiated by receipts. For instance, if you donate 10 dollars with a money order, keep the receipt and furnish this receipt later to prove your 10 dollars ended up in the fund and was not stolen/skimmed off the top. Therefore, if 1000 dollars are collected, we must all furnish our individual receipts of proof to show that our money matches the funds money. This is like reconciling or balancing a checkbook and should reduce the chances of fraud.

These receipts show that certain people **donated**. Now, another donation (in the form of a gift) is then given away to a certain person. Limited only to PAFOA forum members, but is not affiliated with PAFOA in any way.

Donating to gnbrotz for this particular fund will require us to limit 1 person to 1 receipt. You may donate 10 dollars or 50 dollars, but you will still only have 1 receipt.

This seems straight forward, honest, and not deceptive in any way. This does not resemble a raffle either.

To show how situation x would work, here is a scenario. 50 people end up donating for gnbrotz's situation x fund. Each person pledges 10 dollars. The session concludes, and situation x's donation period ends. A tally is taken to compare the donation fund's account value vs the supposed amount of donations by participating members. 50 people donated funds ranging from 10 dollars to 47 dollars. Donation total is $625.23, receipts verify that the donated amount of money is actually the amount of money in the fund account.

The gift has no relation to the donation process, and I mention it here simply as a theoretical and mostly philosophical possibility*. Notwithstanding, in theory people generally want different things; everyone has different tastes. In this instance, however, the gift does not matter. More discussion on gifts, however, should be discussed in private as not to sway the true intention of situation x, which is to help our brother, gnbrotz.

Thanks to God's Country for coming up with this concept.
