Default Re: guns in your room

I have read this whole thread and everyone keeps a gun in their bedroom. Under the pillow, nightstand, between the mattress. Why would anyone with any sense lock their guns up at bedtime or at the very least keep them far away from them. Isn't that why you have and keep a gun. I think that instructor is a wee bit off the mark. What hes saying is if a BG enters your house you have time to get to your weapon. I say Bullshit! If your weapon is on the other side of the room, you have to get up, trip on your slippers, step on the cat, give instructions to your wife, flop around your bedroom looking for your gun in the dark, bump into the dresser and then the gun falls on the floor along with the cordless phone you were going to use to call 911. By this time the BG is already in your bedroom and you staring down his barrel.
My personal opinion is what ever you decide to do (retreat, hide or confront) make sure your weapon is in your hand and not across the room behind the dresser.
You would be surprised how awake you become when SHTF. When your alarm goes off for work in the morning your exhausted and disoriented. When you hear a window break or your dog barking in the middle of the night, boy, aren't you at full attention ready to rock and roll. I know I am.

I could not sleep with a firearm under my pillow. I would grab it in the night while sleeping and shoot myself with it(not intentionally). It is just not for me. (I sleep walk and do some odd shit)

35 years of having at least one pistol under the pillow next to me, always within hands reach. No AD or ND so far.
Who would place their weapon deliberately out of reach, much less across the room? Sounds rediculous to me....

Wow, now that's a big cat. I thought my 17 pounder was big.

I keep a remington 870 on the floor next to my bed, next to a wall, and Glock 19 in my night stand. My cat could give a sh*t about anything, he's always sleeping.

Everyone talks about keeping a firearm in the bedroom. But how many of you have one in your basement?

Eventually I plan to keep a pistol and ammo in our basement. Why? Because you could find yourself cut off from the stairwell up. I think having a handgun in both the bedroom and basement gives you two recourses to flee and arm yourself.

Just a thought for those who might not have considered it.

Personally, if I'm in the basement, I already have a firearm and extra mag on me. I carry around the house until it's time to go to bed.

I've never considered it...because i wear my gun on my person in the house. I guess if you don't do that you might need to stash guns all over the place

I think this is what the instructor try to said. Think about sleeping with your gun under your pillow, you hear a noise, wake up confuse and pumping adrenaline, grab the gun, turn the lights on and is your son at the end of the bed, a situation that NOBODY wants (this is just an example I made). Anyway, before and after the course I always keep my gun on my nightstand next to the bed and also I was thinking on getting an uncomfortable ankle holster that I don't use anymore, strap to the bed frame. I see that dogs are a very good home defense tool but I don't know if I can have one because my wife son has cronic asthma and maybe the hair can make him sick, So, I have to stay with the sensor lights and the the small windows alarms, just for now....And yes it was at Hellertown. I remember your gun, it is a very nice piece!!! I was the first to shoot because I was the only one with .45 cal.

Wink Re: guns in your room

Well if you always have a gun on you while in the house. That probably settles it for you. Not sure if you have family members, and if so, do they always wear a gun?

Even if I start to carry all the time after I get my LTCF. It'll be nice to know there is a handgun in the basement for my wife if she needs it.
